Most of the items being sold are automobiles (historic orotherwise), but some include automotive parts, accessories and artwork, steam engines, and othertypes of transport.Language: Materials are primarily in English.Scope and Content Note: The collection contains catalogs collected at the Revs Institute andpublished in both the United States and abroad. Most of the items being sold are automobiles(historic or otherwise), but some include automotive parts, accessories and artwork. Series twocontains catalogs selling steam engines and models of other types of transport. Series three is agroup of miscellaneous catalogs on automotive art and collectibles. The catalogs are organizedalphabetically by name of the auction house or by the individual auctioneer and creator of thecatalog. In some cases, neither of these is evident, or the auction centers around and event suchas a race or charity. In that case, the catalog is filed by keyword. For instance the catalog for theFormula One Memorabilia Auction, in Aid of the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital Fundcan be found under F for Formula One.The collection organized into three series: Automobilia, Steam Engines and Transport, and Artand Collectibles. Series one and two are arranged alphabetically by name of auction house, thenchronologically. Series three is one box of miscellaneous catalogs on automotive art and othercollectibles. New catalogs received will be retained in the library and incorporated into thecollection.Series 1 (Automobilia Auction Catalogs) contains catalogs in which automobiles andautomobile parts are sold, but not necessarily exclusively. For instance, one catalog mightbe specific to automobiles, while another might sell car parts, art, furniture and othercollectibles in addition to automobiles. Date ranges are only listed for the larger runswhich required multiple boxes. Many publication runs have gaps, but since it’s difficultto identify whether or not a catalog was published for a specific month, we have not triedto document these gaps.Series 2 (Steam Engines and Transport Catalogs) contains catalogs selling steamengines and steam engine models; ship, car and airplane models; transportationmemorabilia; small-gauge railway stock. All are published by Christie’s with theexception of one catalog published by Louis Taylor and Sons in October 1981.Series 3 (Automotive Art and Collectibles) contains one box of miscellaneous catalogs onautomotive art and other collectibles.Access Restrictions: The collection of auction catalogs is open for research.Page 2 of 24Revs Institute for Automotive Research, Inc.
