In response to feedbackreceived from EMVCo Associates,EMVCo has initiated a Wireless TaskForce to evaluate the need and scope forany EMV Specifications in this area. Thegroup aims to identify how wirelesstechnology may enhance the paymentexperience to determine if and how thisshould be addressed by EMVSpecifications. To achieve this, the groupwill focus on identifying a set of keypayment related use cases for wirelessprotocols, typically with a range greaterthan several metres, such as WiFi,Bluetooth or mobile data. As contactlesstechnology including NFC is alreadycovered by EMV Specifications, it is notconsidered as part of this work. Theoutput of this effort will inform thedevelopment of any future EMVSpecifications for the use of wirelesstechnologies for face to face payments.Register for the Board of Advisors InterimCall and Business SIM,16 July to find outmore.EMV Chip PaymentCards Reach 9 BillionWorldwide in 2020EMV Chip technology offers benefits tomerchants, acquirers, card issuers andconsumers by improving face-to-facetransaction security and reducingcounterfeit fraud by enabling transactionson counterfeit cards to be identified anddeclined.
