Widespread acceptance of social recruiting leads to aspike in candidate quantity and quality and an increase inemployee referrals, and social knowledge.Social media has quickly become a dominant forcefor companies to find and hire quality talent. Becauseit allows employers to tap extended networks forcandidates that would not be found otherwise, socialrecruiting offers tremendous value to companies of allsizes. It has become an essential avenue for recruitersto successfully compete in the war for talent.The increase in social media use for recruiting isa direct result of the number of quality candidatesseen from social channels. As tracking systems andsocial networks become commonplace in recruiting,trending data indicates social recruiting not onlyincreases the number of applicants in the hiringpipeline, but also the quality of candidates. A large majority of recruiters (71%) considerthemselves savvy in social recruiting, having asizeable understanding of what to look for insocial profiles. 49% of recruiters who implemented socialrecruiting saw an increase in the quantity ofcandidates, and 43% noted a surge in the qualityof candidates.Respondents of this survey clearly suggest thatsocial recruiting is forefront in their hiring strategies,and in particular there’s growing interest in reviewingcandidate’s profiles during the hiring process. 92% of respondents use or plan to use social mediafor recruiting, an increase of almost ten percentfrom the 83% using social recruiting in 2010. 80% of respondents like to see membershipsand affinities with professional organizations.Volunteerism also creates a positive impressionwith 66% of respondents. 73% have successfully hired a candidate throughsocial networks, making social recruiting a highlyeffective source of quality new hires. 78% had a negative reaction to illegal drugreferences; while 67% felt similar toward posts ofa sexual nature.SOCIAL RECRUITING SURVEY RESULTS 2012 Grammar and spelling mistakes in social profilesalso garnered a negative reaction from 54%of respondents – much higher than alcoholconsumption at 47% negative.As recruiters continue to collect more knowledgeon social recruiting best practices, the number ofquality hires acquired through social media increases.The role candidates’ social activity plays in hiringdecisions also grows in importance. Hiring in and ofitself has broadened its reach to include a multitudeof social media sources as companies continue toseek out new ways to find and hire the best talent.2
