Weare extremely pleased that you are devoting your time and energy toresearching the college’s diversified events and programs. All of theNMSU Carlsbad staff is very proud of our college and we would relish theopportunity to have you join the college as a student or as an employee.As you peruse the information in the catalog, please be sure to payparticular attention to the variety and quality of associate degree andcertificates offered at the college. NMSU Carlsbad has experiencedcontinuing growth over the past few semesters and the college plans tocontinue that growth by increasing course offerings and expanding dualcredit, academic, and vocational programs.NMSU Carlsbad was among the first community colleges in New Mexico,established in 1950 as the Carlsbad Instructional Center. In 1953 NMSUCarlsbad became a part of the NMSU system, which was at the timeknown as the College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts. Since thatdate, NMSU Carlsbad has increased in size, currently serving more than2,000 students throughout Eddy County and employing approximately105 full-time and 60 part-time employees.NMSU Carlsbad is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission ofthe North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and was oneof the first institutions to be admitted to the HLC’s Academic QualityImprovement Program (AQIP) which is a unique accreditation approachfocused on continuous quality improvement. Due to our commitmentto quality and continuing improvement, NMSU Carlsbad has beenrecognized on three separate occasions by Quality New Mexico and thecollege has been recognized for the past three years as a Top College andUniversity in New Mexico.NMSU Carlsbad’s vision is to become “a diverse and communitycentered institution dedicated to excellence and student success throughtransformative discovery.” The college will strive to accomplish thisvision by focusing on our mission which is “to provide students theresources necessary for them to fulfill their educational potential so thatthey may help meet the needs of their community as well-trained, welleducated, and productive citizens.”In order to accomplish this mission, quality must be stressed in allcollege operations and services.
