READ CAREFULLYAll teachers seeking to matriculatein any college’s master’s degreeprogram must apply directly to thecollege, meet all requirements andbe accepted by that college.Each college has discretion overwhich courses, if any, will be acceptedtoward one of its master’s degrees,and also how many courses studentsare required to take on campus.A college may or may not acceptUFT-sponsored courses that are notpart of a particular master’s degreeprogram. Subject areas are arranged alphabeticallyin each category. There are also separate listings for secretaries; paraprofessionals; UFTworkshops on child abuse recognition, the needs of children with autism, and violenceprevention; free UFT-sponsored stress-management workshops (Spring and Fall semesters only); and the Peer Intervention Program for tenured members who need one-on-onehelp in perfecting professional skills. The UFT Course Program and the NYSUT Education and Learning Trust offer master’sdegree courses in education from various area colleges to assist teachers in obtaining initial and professional/permanent certification. See the “Master’s Degree Programs” sectionbeginning on page 9. Registration for FALL 2021 courses will only take place online. Instructions for onlineregistration can be found on page 4. Colleges and universities will not allow students to continue as non-matriculants after 6, 9 or 12 credits, depending on their policies. Please check by calling the college’seducation department. If you are seeking a master’s through the UFT Course Program, thisinformation is listed in the college description under “Master’s Degree Programs” beginning on page 9 of this catalog. Registration fees are not refundable unless the course is canceled by the UFT CourseProgram. The deadline for receipt of registration fees is Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. Keep a copy of yourregistration receipt for your records. Some courses may have different meeting times and dates. P lease read all startingdates carefully. Instructors will provide a course schedule at the first class meeting. Course schedules and offerings are subject to cancellation based on registration.Instructions for tuition payment will be available at the first class.If tuition is not paid on time, some colleges impose a late fee.This may be up to 100 or more, and is determinedby each college’s policy. If you drop a course after attending the first session, a portion of your tuition maybe refunded after the UFT Course Program and the college offering the course receivewritten notification of your decision. The refund will be pro-rated in accordance with theestablished college/program policy. Processing refunds takes at least six weeks. Bounced checks for tuition payments will be returned by banks with an administrative feeset by the individual college/program. To maintain registration in the course, replace mentpayments must be made immediately with a certified check or money order only. Photo ID is required for admission to courses at public schools and UFT borough offices.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDINGDEGREE & CERTIFICATE PROGRAMSDescriptions of degree and certificate programshave been provided to the UFT Course Programby the collaborating colleges or universities.Any problems, issues or concerns regarding thisinformation or your academic status must beaddressed there and not to the UFT. These courses can be used to meet state certification, toachieve salary differentials or to enhance your professional growth.The UFT Teacher Center also has school-based con sultants whoprovide day-to-day professional support in schools throughout thecity. Through local resource centers full of instructional materials,they work with individual UFT members as well as with programs andentire schools, providing workshops, planning sessions, coachingand other support activities.New York State requires all teachers who are seeking initialcertification to take four workshops.
