Each neighborhoodoffers something unique to its residents, from historicarchitecture to a defining sense of place. Come learnwhat it means to live in one of Boise’s vibrant neighborhoods and how you can discover your own neighborhood’s history. This session includes a discussion on the planning documents and processes used bythe Planning & Development Services Department. HAL SIMMONS is Boise’s Planning Director. He alsoserved as Boise’s Chief Comprehensive Planner. Hedirected the rewrite of the Boise ComprehensivePlan in 1993-96, oversaw the 2011 ComprehensivePlan rewrite and has been involved in a variety ofmaster plan efforts.LEON LETSON is an Associate Planner with the City ofBoise and a member of the Energize Our Neighborhoods management team. She is the manager of Design Reviewand Historic Preservation for the City of Boise. BARBARA PERRY-BAUER is a historian and preservationist with a passion for all things Boise. JEFF JACOBS is a board certified Pedorthist and owner of Foot Dynamics, a comfort shoe store and cliniclocated in Boise, Idaho. Jeff moved to Boise in 2008to enjoy the lifestyle of a small walkable/bikeablecity. He has been very active in promoting bicycleand pedestrian issues and has served on the ACHDstakeholder’s committee studying bicycle laneconcepts for downtown.Room: IvyStreet design has a direct and noticeable impact on thelivability of Boise’s communities. He currently is theSunset Neighborhood Association’s vice-president,the chair of its transportation committee and afounding member of the Boise Bike Boulevard Coalition. She became activewith the Neighborhood Association Board soonafter moving to Boise and has helped write severalsuccessful Neighborhood Reinvestment Grants forthe Mesa and plan many annual family activities forresidents. She has been aBorah Neighborhood resident for 25 years and isemployed by Bank of America N.A. as an Assistant Vice President in Wholesale Credit Products.ROY BOEHM is the Public Education Coordinator forthe Boise Fire Department. He has over 26 years ofexperience working in Fire Service Operations, Training and Fire Prevention. Roy is a Certified Fire andExplosives Investigator and holds International CodeCouncil (ICC) certifications as a Fire Inspector I.JERRY MCADAMS is a Senior Captain in the FirePrevention Division of the Boise Fire Department. Hehas a total of 17 years in the fire service. He currentlyserves as a Fire Investigator and Wildfire MitigationSpecialist. By 2050, people ages 60and older will represent 22% of the global population.This demographic shift has prompted many communities, including Boise, to engage in age-friendly planningand programming with the goal of creating environments that encourage active aging by optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security.In 2015, as a component of the Lasting, Innovative, andVibrant (LIV) city initiative, the City of Boise contractedwith the BSU Center for the Study of Aging to conductan age-friendly city assessment. It gathered information from older adults, caregivers of older adults, andagencies providing services to older adults in Boiseabout assets and barriers to healthy aging. Eight specificcommunity aspects, from open spaces to transportationto social engagement, communications and communityservices, were explored. Participants also made suggestions for making the City of Boise more age-friendly.ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION:HOW NEIGHBORHOODS WORK TOCOLLABORATERoom: RiverforkNeighbors and neighborhoods increasingly want to worktogether on larger issues facing our community.
