I made with ⅓ cup of each main ingredients, but this can adjusted up for down for biggeror smaller batches.Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a quart size glass mason jar and carefully place thisjar in a small saucepan of water on the stove.Turn the burner on and bring water to a low simmer. Stir ingredients constantlyuntil they are melted and smooth.Remove from heat and stir in the menthol crystals and stir until dissolved.Add essential oils and arnica oil (optional) and stir until mixed.Carefully pour into molds or whatever you will be allowing the lotion bars toharden in. I used these silicon loaf molds, though any mold would work.Allow the lotion bars to cool completely before attempting to pop out of molds. These could be made in different shaped molds or made in a square baking panand then cut into actual bars.Bug Repellent Lotion BarsIngredients1 cup coconut oil½ cup shea butter, cocoa butter or mango butter (or a mix of all three equal to 1part)½ cup beeswax 2 tablespoons¼ cup fresh or dried rosemary leaves1 teaspoon dried whole cloves2 tablespoons dried or fresh thyme½ teaspoon cinnamon powder¼ cup dried catnip leaf1 (or more) tablespoons of mint leaf (optional but adds great scent)Optional: 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil to preserve.Essential Oils (optional but good): Bug off blend (contains all of the above),lavender and lemon (10 drops of each)

InstructionsThis version has an extra step that the original Lotion Bars didn't have. To savemoney on essential oils, we actually infuse the herbs into the coconut oil.Using a double boiler or glass bowl on top of a small saucepan, heat about 1 inchof water (in bottom pan) until starting to boil. Place the dried rosemary, cloves, thyme, cinnamon, catnip and mint in the top part of the double boiler and add thecoconut oil (can also use almond, olive or other oil but you will need to addmore beeswax later on to get the bars to firm.Cover the bowl or top part of the double boiler and keep the water atmedium/high temperature for at least 30 minutes or until oil has adopted a darkercolor and smells strongly of rosemary.Alternately, you can fill a crock pot about half full with water, put the coconutoil and herbs in a glass mason jar with a tight lid, cover and keep on lowestsetting for several days to make an even stronger infused oil. Then, strain the dried herbs out of the oil using a small mesh strainer orcheesecloth and pour the oil back into the double boiler. The oil will probably bereduced by almost half and you should have about ½ cup of the infused oil. Ifyou have more, save it for next time!Add the butter(s) and beeswax to the double boiler and stir until all have melted.Remove from heat, add the Vitamin E oil and any other essential oils and pourinto molds.Leave in the molds until completely set (overnight is best) or you can speed upthe process by placing in the fridge. To use: Rub the bars on exposed areas of DRY skin to protect against

mosquitos. If you are pregnant, check to make sure any herbs you use are safefor pregnancy and omit the ones that aren't.Sunscreen BarsIngredients1 cup coconut oil1 cup shea butter, cocoa butter or mango butter1 cup beeswax2 tablespoons (or more) of non-nano Zinc OxideOptional : Vitamin E oil to preserve. I added 1 tsp vitamin E oil for this recipemade with 1 cup of each ingredient)Optional : a few drops of vanilla or essential oil for scent (do not use citrusoils!)InstructionsCombine all ingredients (except zinc oxide and essential oils if using) in adouble boiler, or a glass bowl over a smaller saucepan with 1 inch of water in it.Turn the burner on and bring water to a boil. Stir ingredients constantly untilthey are melted and smooth:Remove from heat and add the zinc oxide powder and essential oils.Gently stir by hand until essential oils are incorporated.Carefully pour into molds or whatever you will be allowing the lotion bars toharden in. I used these silicon baking cups, though any mold would work. Thisrecipe exactly filled 12 silicon baking cups when I made it.Allow the lotion bars to cool completely before attempting to pop out of molds. These could be made in different shaped molds for different holiday gifts (hearts

for valentines, flowers for Mother’s day, etc.) or made in a square baking panand then cut into actual bars. They can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge or freezer for longerterm storage. Keep below 80 degrees or they will melt! Adjust coverage to yourneeds and be careful not to burn while determining how long you can spend inthe sun with these.DIY Shaving ProductsDIY Shaving CreamAn easy natural homemade shaving cream that will leave your skin smooth andsilky without using preservatives or synthetic ingredients. Instead, theingredients in this recipe are plant based and beneficial to your skin--whereveryou're shaving.Let's get started so you can get your shave on!Step 1: Ingredients1/3 Cup Coconut Oil1/3 Cup Shea Butter2 Tablespoons of Almond Oil2 Tablespoons Unscented Castile SoapEssential Oil of Your Choice (I used French Lavender)Kitchen PotElectric MixerBowlRubber SpatulaAir Tight, Sealing Storage Jar

Step 2: Melt & MixPlace both your coconut oil and shea butter into a pot over low heat. Continue toheat, stirring occasionally until your coconut oil and shea butter are completelymelted and mixed together. Turn off your heat source once your ingredients arefully melted and mixed.Optional: You can melt your oils with a double boiler if that makes you feelmore comfortable or you are worried about direct heat on the oils for anyreason.Step 3: Adding OilPour in your oil and stir until completely blended. I chose a sweet almond oil forthis step, but you are more than welcome to substitute with an oil of your choice.Almond oil has very little fragrance and lots of emollient and moisturizingproperties.Other popular base oils include: apricot oil, argan oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil,and rose hip oil.Step 4: CoolingPour your liquid mixture into a bowl or container so that it can cool. Place yourbowl or container into your fridge for around 1 hour, or until it has hardened.Step 5: Soap and ScentTake your solid oil mixture out of the fridge. Add your castile soap and essentialoils.Essential oils are optional. They are an easy way to add fragrance to yourshaving cream. They can also have added skin care benefits as well. I choselavender as my essential oil for several reasons. The first being simply that I like

the scent it has.The second reason has to do with the essential oils beneficial properties. Amongit's many uses, lavender is believed to help relieve stress as well as reduce dryand scaly skin. Here are a few essential oils you could consider for your shaving cream. I havecategorized them by benefits for skin types. They of course have other uses as well, look them up! You may also find thereare others I haven't listed here. For Oily Skin:Bergamot, Clary Sage, Geranium, Lemon, Orange, Peppermint, RomanChamomile, Rosemary, Tea TreeFor Dry Skin:Carrot Seed, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli Hydrosol, Rose,Rosewood, Ylang YlangFor Sensitive Skin:Geranium, Jasmine, LavenderFor Normal Skin:Angelica, Cedarwood, Geranium, Jasmine, Neroli, Rose, Rosewood.Step 6: Whip ItWith your electric mixer (hand or stand) whip your mixture for several minutes, until it is light and fluffy. Overall the mixing process should take 4-5 minutes, but can take longer if your solid mixture is particularly cold. Scrape down the

sides of your bowl with your rubber spatula if needed.Step 7: StorageUsing your rubber spatula, transfer your freshly made shaving cream to an airand water tight container of your choice. Oils like coconut oil can mold and roteasily so keeping as much moisture out of there as possible is always a goodthing!Step 8: ConclusionAs mentioned in the previous step, you'll want to keep as much moisture out ofyour shaving cream as possible since oils like coconut have a tendency to mold.Pat your hands dry before scooping your shaving cream out of your jar toprevent added moisture.Cover your shaving cream when you're not actively using it. For this reason, Ialso like to make small batches at a time. Finally, your new shaving cream can be pretty slippery in the shower due to allof it's fresh oils and butters. Please be careful when you're using it!DIY Foaming Shaving SoapIngredients1/4 cup Natural Aloe Vera Gel (not juice!)1/4 cup Liquid Castille Soap1 TBSP Olive or Almond Oil1/4 cup warm Distilled Water (or lavender infused)Vitamin E or Grapefruit Seed Extract (to preserve)Essential Oils for Fragrance (optional) – I use lavender8 ounce or larger Foaming Soap Bottle

DirectionsMix ingredients in foamer bottle and shake gently until mixed.Shake well before each use. This recipe will last a couple of months (I use up within about 2 months, so Idon’t know beyond that). I don’t recommend citrus oils if you are going to be inthe sun, since they increase sun sensitivity.DIY Shaving Soap BarIngredients1 bar of natural, handcrafted soap1 TBSP olive or almond oil or aloe vera gel1-2 TBSP white clay, french clay, kaolin, or cosmetic clayDirectionsGrate soap and on low heat, melt soap down with oil or aloe vera. It will take awhile, so be patient and stir often.Once melted, stir in the cosmetic clay (this makes a richer lather and is great forthe skin).Pour into molds (I use cardboard) or old mugs and let set for several days until itre-hardens. Will last months and will cure more over time, making it longerlasting.DIY Hair ProductsDIY Hair Growth Serum RecipeIngredients

1 cup distilled water2 Tablespoons Dried Nettle Leaf2 Tablespoons Horsetail Leaf (optional)2 Tablespoons Natural Aloe Vera Gel10 drops of Clary Sage Essential Oil10 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil10 drops of Lavender Essential OilDirectionsBoil the distilled water and add the dried nettle leaf and horsetail leaf.Let the herbs sit in the water for at least 10 minutes or until water cools.Strain the herbs out and pour the herb infused liquid in to a spray bottle.Add the aloe vera and essential oils and shake well.Store in the fridge for up to 3 months and shake well before us.How to Use:Spray liberally on hair roots once or more per day. I found that it was easiest andworked the best to spray on before bed each night.DIY Natural HairsprayIngredients1.5 cups filtered water2 Tablespoons white sugar1 tablespoon of high proof alcohol like vodka10-15 drops of essential oil of choiceDirections

Boil water and dissolve sugar in it.Allow to cool to room temp and add alcohol and essential oils.Store in spray bottle and use as regular hair spray.DIY Nourishing Hair OilIngredients2 Tablespoons olive oil1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil1 Tablespoon honey1 teaspoon epsom salt or magnesium flakesDirectionsCombine all ingredients and whisk/blend well (I used an immersion blender). You may have to heat the coconut oil slightly to get it in liquid form. Epsom saltwill still be somewhat gritty but will dissolve and work in to hair once applied.Over a sink or shower, massage oil through the hair and scalp. Put a shower capon (or old towel) and leave on for up to 30 minutes. In the shower, rinse well, then shampoo. If still oily, massage a small amount ofbaking soda through the hair to remove or use dry shampoo after the shower.Homemade Shampoo and Hair TipsBASIC SHAMPOOFor normal hair, or as a base to add your own scentsIngredients:

Apple cider vinegar4 oz WaterDirections:Put 1 tsp baking soda in a cup or mug to take into the shower with you.In another cup, pour about 1 oz ( 1/8 cup) apple cider vinegar. When you get into the shower, fill the baking soda cup with about 1/4 c water.Apply this to your roots only; work it in and let it sit for a minute. Then begin to gently scrub your scalp, stimulating blood flow and cleaning outyour pores. This will actually stimulate hair growth.Lastly, scrub the back of your skull and your temples/sideburns. This will resultin less grease and more growth.Rinse!Follow by adding about 1/4 c water to your vinegar cup.Pour the apple cider vinegar over the ends of your hair, let it sit for a minute andthen rinse it out.No 'Poo TroubleshootingThere may be a transition period from two weeks to two months depending onthe person. Here are a few tips:If your hair becomes frizzy, try using less baking soda or leaving it on for ashorter period of time. Adding honey may also help.

If your hair becomes greasy, try using less apple cider vinegar, switching tolemon or lime juice, leaving out the honey, and/or using a comb instead of abrush. Also, make sure you re applying the apple cider vinegar just to the endsof your hair.If your scalp itches, try the following essential oils; tea tree, lavender, rosemary. If your hair becomes dry, try a tiny bit of oil (any oil, I use olive) smoothed onbottom of hair.DIY TOOTHPASTEmakes 1/4 cupIngredients6 tablespoons baking soda2 tablespoons salt2 tablespoons glycerin20 drops peppermint, spearmint or cinnamon essential oilDirectionsMix all the ingredients together into a smooth paste.
