Your generosity has created a deep and lasting impact on thousands of youththroughout our community. We credit all of our successes this past year to thegenerosity of donors, volunteers, partners, and caring individuals like you.Below are a few highlights from this year: Our Afterschool Programs provide daily activities like homework help, character building, drug prevention, positive interpersonal relationships, healthylifestyles, social and emotional learning, and enrichment activities. Due to the costof participating in afterschool and summer activities, middle- and high-income school-aged youth spend 6,000more hours in afterschool and summer activities than their low-income peers (Washington & Ottinger, 2017). These6,000 hours represent time spent learning and practicing skills and habits that have benefits lasting long intoadulthood. It’s no wonder afterschool programs, like the Boys & Girls Clubs, have been proven to close theachievement gap for low income kids (Pierce, 2013) including: increasing academic performance (Lauer, P. A.,2006), increasing school attendance (Durlak, 2010), improving decision making skills (Hirsch, 2011), and decreasingrisky behavior (Durlak, 2010). Our Netsmartz Program prevents the online exploitation and trafficking of children by providing digitalcitizenship trainings to Utah students. During this year Netsmartz served 428,000 of Utah’s youth throughin-person interactive training sessions delivered by trained professional staff members. The outcomes of theprogram are amazing with the vast majority of kids reporting changes to the way they interact online as a result ofthe training they received. Our AmeriCorps STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Initiative creates STEM pathways for thegrowing number of technology jobs in the state. By introducing kids to STEM at a young age this program helpsyouth develop positive attitudes, awareness, behavior, interest, and skills related to STEM. Our Child Nutrition Program provides over 44,000 meals and 37,000 snacks to low-income youth in UtahCounty during the fiscal year. According to the Food Research & Action Center, one in five U.S. households withchildren were unable to purchase enough food last year.Gratefully,Thank you for helpingmake these programs possible.Brad Norton, BOARD PRESIDENTDavid Bayles, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOROFFICER’S LETTERWe want to warmly thank you for your incredible support ofthe Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County!

MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDSMaslow’s hierarchy is a psychological theory comprised of a five-tier model of human needs. Needs lowerdown in the hierarchy must be met before an individual can attend to needs higher up in the hierarchy. We offer programs that are designed to meet the needs of our Club members and help them reachtheir full potential.PHYSICAL The Child Nutrition Program meets the most basic needs of our Club members byproviding healthy meals and snacks. Being well fed allows our youth to focus on other needslike learning and personal development.SAFETY Club members come to a safe place each day after school. The afterschoolprogram offers stability, routine, and security. Additionally, the NetSmartzprogram provides digital safety trainings to prevent the online exploitation andtrafficking of children.CONNECTION Friendship and belonging are an essential part of our AfterschoolProgram. Youth participate in a variety of enrichment and learning activitiesdesigned to foster connection between caring adults and Club peers and helpthem feel they have a place they belong.THRIVECONFIDENCECONNECTIONSAFETYCONFIDENCE As youth participate in our Afterschool, NetSmartz, andAmeriCorps STEM programs they develop new skills, gain confidence in theirabilities, and achieve goals.THRIVE Meeting the needs of our Club members allows them to thriveand eventually reach their full potential as productive, caring, andresponsible citizens and leaders in the community.PHYSICAL
