July 2013The Brass NutsPresident’s Message:The touring seasoncontinues shaping up. Mattand I continue working onthe Ryan Ramble by workingon the property (where wewill have ample opportunityto explore and relax on thisyear's Ryan Ramble). We arevery excited to share this with all the tourparticipants.Several club members are going on the Model Ttour in Kanab in mid-July. I am very excited toparticipate in this tour and look forward to seeingseveral national parks with close club friends andfamily. The Classics, Cats and Cabernet tour got ravereviews. The Young Life Capernaum group reallyappreciated our participation in their Evening ofDreams event in which club members drove specialneeds kids to their prom in classic and antique cars.I was out and about when a person who didn'tknow I was involved in this club started talkingabout cars. This led to him describing a particulardisplay at the Autorama that he was impressed with.It sure sounded like our club's display. Eventually hepulled up, on his phone, a picture of Matt's and mySpeedster with trailer (not knowing I was associatedwith the car) and other cars from the display so Icould see for myself what he was talking about. Thenproceeded to tell me that he felt the display was thebest display at the Autorama. After all that I wasproud to tell him that I'm President of the clubresponsible for that display. I'm proud to tell all ofyou that our club's display left a lasting impressionon people and months after the Autorama it is stillcreating positive buzz.Sadly, late last month we lost a cherishedmember, Bob Hopkins, Sr. Bob Sr. was a bright, cheery guy who was always happy to see each andevery one of us. He enjoyed touring with all of usand we enjoyed touring with him; he had good caradvice that he was happy to share and he wasgenerally a neat man. He was like our club grandpaand he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts andprayers are with his loved ones.Thank you all for your participation and for beingsuch a wonderful group.JessPage 3Editor’s Message:The Hill house is sort of back to normal after all thecompany who visited the latter part of June.Thank you again for the wonderful tributes andmessages of condolence you shared with all theHopkins family. July 2013The Brass NutsPage 5A 1924 DODGE GOES TO SCHOOL!Story by: Frank SquireOn Thursday, May 30, Mrs. Geremia's 1st gradeclass at Del Dayo Elementary School experienced a1924 Dodge Brothers Touring car. They were toldabout the differences between cars of today and earlycars. The discussion included how cars are started, safety features, and accessories such as heaters, airconditioning, radios, and seat belts. Also that theroads of today are paved while early roads werewagon tracks or dirt roads. This year is theCentennial of the first highway across America - thebeginning of paved roads. The car was hand cranked to start. The kids learnedabout early hand signals for turning and braking. They really liked the noise of the engine and thesound of the horn. This is the exciting part.the students get to look inside thecar and see what it’s like compared to today’s automobiles.Mrs. Geremia holds onto one of the students as theylook at the back end of this vintage vehicle. The students are seated and listen intently to Frank as hetalks about his 1924 Dodge Brothers automobile. It seemseveryone is in Hawaiian attire.a definite festive welcome tothe old Dodge.

The shelter is located on a beautiful horsefarm in Lincoln CA. The setting is pristine and ourhosts are most gracious. Many people came to see the cars and boats and tospend money to maintain the shelter. I’m tellingyou, cat lovers are very passionate people.
