GENERAL INFORMATIONHistoryNUC University is a private institution of higher education dedicated mainly to offer associate degreeprograms in the health, business and technology fields as well as bachelor’s degree programs in nursing,business and office systems, among others. The Institution also offers several Master’s Degree Programs.It was incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on September 8, 1982, file number52,584, under the name of National College of Business and Technology. It began its educational programsin Bayamón in July 1982. In 1984 it opened the Arecibo Branch Campus in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and in2003 the Río Grande Branch Campus in Río Grande, Puerto Rico. In September 2007 NUC opened alearning site at San Cristóbal Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico. In July 10, 2009 it was converted to the PonceBranch Campus. In January 2011, NUC opened a Learning Site in Caguas, Puerto Rico. In June 2014, itwas converted to the Caguas Branch Campus. On March 6, 2017 NUC opened a Branch Campus inMayagüez, Puerto Rico, and in November 2018, NUC opened the NUC University - South Florida Campusin FL. In February 2018, NUC University acquired NUC University – IBC Technical Division, NUCUniversity - Florida Technical College (NUC-FTC), and The Digital Animation & Visual Effects School(The DAVE School).A Steering Committee organized by Mr. Jesús Siverio Orta, Esq., in 1980, worked on the planning andorganization of the institution. On April 1st, 1982, NUC University began its educational operations inBayamón and, in June of the same year, the Committee acquired the Polytechnical Community College. Atthe same time, the Institution obtained from the Puerto Rico Department of Education its operating licensewith the same rights, privileges and obligations as the predecessor Institution.The initial programs offered were Pharmacy Assistant and Secretarial Sciences. The first group of studentsfrom these two programs graduated in July, 1983.NUC University initiated its educational program with four classrooms on the third floor of the RamosBuilding located in the city of Bayamón. To complement the educational programs offered at that time, thefacilities also included a Typing Laboratory, Pharmacy Laboratory and a Library.In a short period of time the Institution won the confidence and the respect of the Bayamón and Arecibocommunities which facilitated its accelerated and constant development.The NUC University buildings at each of the locations are easily accessible from different areas inBayamón, Arecibo, Río Grande, Ponce, Caguas and Mayagüez, Puerto Rico as from adjacent towns. Eachlocation is at a short distance from the city’s main roads. This is in accordance with the Institution’sobjective of ensuring educational services are accessible for the socioeconomically disadvantagedpopulation within our society. Each site’s strategic location and the ease with which transportation isavailable offers the students a real alternative to study.The combined facilities for educational development consist of appropriate and sufficient classrooms andmodern laboratories for computer instruction, electronic technology, dental assistant, pharmacy technician,nursing, and multidisciplinary laboratories of science which offer service to the various health and sciencescourses. The Library has a combined area that includes a computer station with several computers for useby students as well as a multiple purposes room. In addition to the habitual paper bound collection it alsoincludes electronic data bases, video collection, periodicals, Internet, and other resources which arecontinuously being developed and updated. It also has adequate offices for administrative personnel as wellas independent study facilities for students. The facilities and programs vary according to each location.For the NUC University - South Florida Campus there is an office with the required personnel to assist walkin students that require orientation. It is characterized by an attitude towards collaboration, participation and a sense ofcommitment from all participants. Toward this end, all administrative staff that occupy key positions andfaculty comply with all the competency and performance requirements.4. Strengthening and positioning of the NUC Brand – The NUC brand (institutional identity) must berecognized in the market as one of the top private universities in PR, FL and through distance education.5. Financial Strength – Achievement of key financial metrics levels established in each year’s annual budget.Accreditation, Licensing and AssociationsNUC University is licensed by the “Junta de Instituciones Post Secundarias” (JIP) of Puerto Rico to offerMaster’s, Bachelor’s and Associate’s Degrees, and diploma program. NUC University (NUC) is anaccredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)www.msche.org. NUC’s NUC University – IBC Technical Division (NUC-IBC), NUC University - FloridaTechnical College (NUC-FTC), and The Digital Animation & Visual Effects School (The DAVE School)are included in this accreditation. NUC’s accreditation status is Accreditation Reaffirmed. TheCommission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on 2019 was to reaffirmaccreditation. MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Educationand the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The Institution is certified by the United StatesDepartment as an eligible institution to administer Title IV federal funds. Also, the Florida Bureau of StateApproving Agency has approved NUC University for veterans’ education training.The Institution is a member of the Puerto Rico Association of Private Education, the Career EducationColleges and Universities (CECU) and the College Board. Membership is also maintained in the NationalAssociation of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the Puerto Rico Association of Student Financial AidAdministrators, and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.8
