WiPort Data SheetGeneral DescriptionThe WiPort is the most compact, integrated solutionavailable to add 802.11b/g wireless networking to anydevice with a serial or wired Ethernet interface. Usingthis highly integrated hardware and software platform, you will add to your bottom line by significantly reducingproduct development time, risk, and cost. The WiPort offers the highest level of integrationavailable in a device server. Within a compact packageis a DSTni x86 controller, memory, 802.11b/g radio, a10/100 Ethernet transceiver, and dual high-speed serialports. All of this combines to give you a completenetworking solution. The WiPort is designed withflexibility to support additional wireless standardswithout requiring redesign. To enable access to a local network or the Internet, theWiPort integrates a fully developed TCP/IP networkstack and OS. The WiPort also includes an embeddedweb server that can be used to remotely configure, monitor, or troubleshoot the attached device.WiPort serves web pages to a web browser when thereis a need to gather information or communicate withnetworked devices. The WiPort becomes a conduitbetween you and your device over the network orInternet. The Windows -based configuration software, DeviceInstaller , simplifies installation and setup. The WiPortcan also be configured locally through its serial port, orremotely over a network using Telnet (passwordprotected) or a web browser. Flash memory providesfor maintenance-free, nonvolatile storage of webpages, and allows future system software upgrades.Hardware & Software DescriptionThe WiPort functions independently of a PC, providinga complete hardware and software solution for addingwireless connectivity to your edge devices. Within asingle package this powerful device server comes withan 802.11b wireless connection, a 10/100 Ethernettransceiver, a reliable and proven operating systemstored in flash memory, an embedded web server, a fullTCP/IP protocol stack, and WEP security.Key Features Complete integrated RoHS compliant solution Supports 802.11 WLAN or Ethernet connectivity Serial to 802.11b/g conversion Wired Ethernet to 802.11 b/g WLAN Bridging Stable, field proven TCP/IP protocol suite and webbased application framework Optional End-to-End 128, 192 and 256 Bit AESEncryption WPA PSK TKIP security, 128 bit WEP encryption Dual serial ports Easy configuration through a web interface Easy installation of customized web pages Embedded web server 11 General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) pins E-mail alerts Upgradeable firmware via the network or serial port High performance data throughputThe WiPort runs on a single 3.3V supply, and has abuilt-in voltage supervisory circuit. The WiPort will connect through a coaxial cable “pigtail”to a panel-mounted external antenna, which makes theelectro-mechanical integration very simple. The WiPort software runs on a Lantronix DSTnicontroller which has 256 KB of internal SRAM, and 16KB of boot ROM. The WiPort communicates to theedge device through a 3.3V logic level interface. 2 MBof flash memory is included for storing firmware andweb pages.WiPort Data SheetCopyright 2006, Lantronix. Protocol SupportThe WiPort uses the widely accepted 802.11g protocolto connect to a wireless infrastructure or ad-hocnetwork, and is fully backward compatible with legacy802.11b wireless networks. It uses the TransmissionControl Protocol (TCP) to assure that no data is lost orduplicated and that everything sent to the connectionarrives correctly at the target.Other supported protocols are listed below: ARP, UDP, TCP, ICMP, Telnet, TFTP, AutoIP,DHCP, HTTP, and SNMP for networkcommunications. IP for addressing, routing, and data block handlingover the network. User Datagram Protocol (UDP) for typical datagramapplications in which devices interact with otherdevices without maintaining a point-to-pointconnection.Dimensions The WiPort dimensions are shown in thefollowing drawing: TCP, UDP, and Telnet for connections to the serialport. TFTP for firmware updates.WiPort – Embedded Device Server(Note: Part #s on drawing are only representative)WiPort b/g Data Sheet – Rev 1.0 (March 2006)Page 2 of 7
