MontanaPart No. SRF2I0199. Electrical Interface9.1 Host InterfaceThe host PCB requires the mating connector which is the IPEX MHF (UFL) receptacle. The location should be close to the chip/modules pin for the RF. Any feed from thisreceptacle should be maintained at 50Ω impedance.9.2 Transmission LineAll transmission lines should be designed to have a characteristic impedance of 50Ω. The length of the transmission lines should be kept to a minimum Any other parts of the RF system like transceivers, power amplifiers, etc, shouldalso be designed to have an impedance of 50 ΩOnce the material for the PCB has been chosen (PCB thickness and dielectricconstant), a coplanar transmission line can easily be designed using any of thecommercial software packages for transmission line design. For the chosen PCBthickness, copper thickness and substrate dielectric constant, the program willcalculate the appropriate transmission line width and gaps on either side of the feed.A DC blocking capacitor should be placed in line to protect the RF front end.10. Mechanical FixingThe antenna uses 3M 468MP adhesive on the back side of the FPC. The antenna hasa easy access split line to peel off to reveal the adhesive side. It is designed for a onetime fix to a clean smooth surface.FPC back sideSplit line foreasy peelAntennas for Wireless M2M ApplicationsProduct SpecificationPage 8

MontanaPart No. SRF2I01911.0 Antenna Integration Guide11.1 PlacementFor placing the FPC antenna within a device, the host PCB size is not a factor as withPCB mounted antennas. However, placement still needs to follow some basic rules,as any antenna is sensitive to its environment. The guide below shows six spatial directions. The antenna FPC section should ideallymaintain a minimum of three directions free from obstructions so as to be able tooperate effectively. The other directions will have obstacles in their paths, thesedirections still require a minimum clearance. These minimum clearances are furtherdefined in this section. The plastic case is not included in this, only metalobjects/components that will obstruct or come in close proximity to the antenna.Six spatial directions relative to FPCExample with 5 spatial directions clearFPCPCBAntennas for Wireless M2M ApplicationsProduct SpecificationPage 9

MontanaPart No. SRF2I01911.2 Orientation of FPCThe orientation of the FPC with respect to the host PCB should be defined dependingon the unit. The proximity of the GND will have an influence on the antenna so thePCB location relative to the antenna should be considered. The orientation the FPC will normally be placed in one of three of the following optionsfor orientation. In each option a distance (d) is the critical dimension to consider. Belowshows the minimum value of (d) for each. Other obstructions may increase thisdimension.1)Vertical mountedFPCCable Connectord 5mmPCB1) Co-planar to PCBd 15mm2) Planar to PCB (Same plane)d 5mmAntennas for Wireless M2M ApplicationsProduct SpecificationPage 10

MontanaPart No. SRF2I01911.3 Device Integration exampleAn example of integration within a device is shown below. The device contains themajor components along with the device outer case. The FPC is shown adhered tothe inside of the plastic housing of the device. The length of the cable is sufficient toallow ease of assembly when produced (SRF2I019-100)The FPC was placed parallel relative to the PCB. The FPC is kept a maximised heightabove the PCB to ensure it is above the minimum clearance of 15mm. This exampleshows the FPC 20mm above the PCB.For co-planar placementrelative to PCB d 10mm(min 15mm)Antennas for Wireless M2M ApplicationsProduct SpecificationPage 11

MontanaPart No. SRF2I01912. Hazardous Material Regulation ConformanceThe antenna has been tested to conform to RoHS requirements. A certificate ofconformance is available from Antenova M2M’s website.13. PackagingThe antennas are stored in individual plastic (PE) bags. Then stored within a secondbag of 10pcs.Single antenna per bag10 units per second bag (Labelled)13.1 Optimal Storage ConditionsTemperature-10ºC to 40ºCHumidityLess than 75% RHShelf life24 MonthsStorage placeAway from corrosive gas and direct sunlightAntennas should be stored in unopened sealedmanufacturer’s plastic packaging.PackagingThe shelf life of the antenna is two years provide the factory seal of the bag of 10pieces remains factory-sealed.Antennas for Wireless M2M ApplicationsProduct SpecificationPage 12
