Not everything we dois of equal importance. Not everything we do matters as muchto us. Not everything we do is a demonstration of our faith andintegrity. It is no sin or lack of commitment to be casual aboutmany of the activities in your life.But if being the best you can be on the football field andas a teammate is a big deal to you, make it a big deal in youroffseason training. Don’t do as little as you can; do all that youcan. Put extra time in the weight room and on the track. Gothe extra mile. Your determination, sacrifice, and work ethicwill be a witness to your friends and teammates. He loved scooping up groundballs and making the throw to first place. And Zack was avery good shortstop. He almost never let a ball go betweenhis legs into the outfield. In first, second, third, and fourthgrades, Jack was always his team’s shortstop.The summer before 5th grade, Zach moved up to anew league and a new team, the Sharks. He really liked hisnew coach and teammates, but was a disappointed whenhe learned that the Sharks already had a shortstop. Hisname was Jack. Zack was sent out by the coach to playsecond base.Zack tried not to be upset, but it didn’t seem fair. Heshould at least get a chance to show how good he was.Zack wondered if he should talk to the coach after practiceand ask if he could have a turn to try out for shortstop.But after watching Jack field hard ground balls, Zack hadto admit, Jack was the best shortstop he had ever playedwith or against.
