ABOUT CHAPLAINS AND CARINGChaplains are usually pastors with specialized training who serve in institutional settings, such as prisons, hospitals, hospice, long-term care, counseling centers, industrial and workplace and military installations. Asspecially trained ministers of the gospel, they seek to encourage others in their relationship with JesusChrist. They seek to minister to the whole person, addressing not only a person's spiritual needs, but alsotheir physical and emotional needs.Chaplains operate at the cutting edge where ministry and social structures intersect. They committhemselves to being available to those who are suffering, alienated and confused. They struggle with thosewho have perplexing questions about suffering, death, and the meaning of life. Chaplains offer resourcesand guidance that lead towards spiritual renewal and reconciliation with God.Chaplains provide a caring, human environment in which spiritual guidance can be provided. In so doingthey are a part of the professional team within the institution. The duality of serving both the church andinstitution is key to understanding the challenges and opportunities for this specialized ministry. The Office of Chaplaincy and Care Ministry supports and develops chaplaincy by: recruiting and assisting prospective candidates through their specialized trainingendorsing chaplains and their ministrysupporting chaplains and their familiesmaintaining links between chaplain and the church through conferences and newsletterspromoting chaplaincy ministry in the church and communityparticipating in national/state/provincial chaplaincy organizationseducating the church about institutional ministry issuesStaff are available to provide the following resources: consultation to persons interested in chaplaincysupporting the development of ministry opportunitiesspeaking to churches and organizations about chaplaincy ministryconnecting chaplains with churches for speaking engagements or educationA Message from the President:The American Association of Christian TherapistsDear Pastoral & Christian Counselor: Greetings in the Name of Christ! Why be certified? The public demands it. The Christian public has a right to require some level of trainingor proficiency, or at least to know a person has been trained properly if he/she has a wall document thatreads, Professional, Certified, or Licensed. To some extent the word Certified doesn't eliminate some of thequestionable practices in our Christian counseling ranks today, but with the high standards of the AACT wehave a good beginning. The AACT does not compete with state licensing. In fact we recommend that you pursue state licensing. We do however offer an alternative for those "Pastors" and other Ministers who choose to make counselingtheir "ministry" and cannot for some reason pursue state licensing.

We encourage you also to check in your state to determine the use of thewords "clinical," "Therapist," and the term "licensed." If your state does notallow you to use these terms you need to know this information. We offerhere at this website these and other guidelines that outline membership, registration, certification, and licensing requirements at all levels of ministry. All of these suggested guidelines are intended to offer opportunity for growthwhile insuring competence in the area of pastoral care, counseling, andtherapy and protection for you while you serve our Lord in your PastoralCounseling Ministry. All Membership, Registration, Certification, and Licensing, is applicable to Pastoral Care, Counseling, andTherapy performed under the covering of a church, ministry, or other religious non-profit corporation.Proof of organizational or professional liability insurance is required prior to the first anniversary date forlevel of Registered Pastoral Care Provider, and above.A.A.C.T. now strongly encourages all members be either licensed or ordained ministers. This is for yourprotection. If you are not licensed or ordained, we can suggest a fellowship or church through which youmay become licensed or ordained. (the E.C.C. is a part of Dayspring Ministries International, as is theA.A.C.T.). This standing is also required by the first renewal anniversary date for all members. (Seerequirements for ministerial licensing and ordination. http://eccdayspringmi.com)The information we send you, or that is presented on this website, will help answer many of your questions.Although AACT will be celebrating it's 10th birthday in 2005. In its growth through the last 10 years AACThas become the recognized pace-setter in the field of Christian Counseling Certification throughout theworld. Please take the time to CHECK US OUT . He is our Lord and Savior.the Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to indwell, guide, teach and empower the believer, and convince the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment.the Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were inspired by God and aresufficient for faith and practice.Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent.the church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemedthrough His blood and are born again of the Holy Spirit.the local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship ofGod, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and the observance of theordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper.Dayspring International Leadership Network (DILN)Dayspring Christian University Transforming Leaders

Dear Students & Friends,Welcome to the wonderful family of Dayspring Christian University, formerly theInstitute of Theology & Christian Therapy, ICCT and CMI. Please allow me to sharea few thoughts and highlights about this tremendous ministry. The Vision:The vision of Dayspring Christian University and the Institute of Theology & ChristianTherapy remains the same as that of International College of Christian Therapy, broadand vast. I remember precisely when we began hearing God speak about the vision ofDr. Denis Francois,ICCT, which became the ITCT and is now Dayspring Christian University. Starting asChancellor, DCUCommandera seemingly insignificant spark, this vision grew for some months and by the end ofDayspring Chaplainssummer, 2000 it had grown into a burning flame. It was during this year that we wentinto action. Adding to our busy ministry and walking in faith, we began to see the picture unfold. This visionhas became very important to AACT, of which DCU is even more of an integral part than the ITCT andthe ICCT every was.Ft. Lauderdale, FLThe University:We have a genuine burden for ministers, Christian counselors, church workers and everyday Christianswho desire more education in the field of Christian Counseling, Ministry and Theology. Because of timeconstraints, inconvenience, or financial difficulties, many cannot attend a classical resident Bible college orseminary. Recognizing these constraints, We realized the need for affordable, nonresident, and possiblylater, resident training in all of the fields listed. That dream seemed at times to be an unreachable goal.Nevertheless, as always, God is providing the solution. In an almost overnight intervention from the Lord, our dream has become a reality, first through the International College of Christian Therapy then thorughthe Institute of Theology & Christian Cherapy and now overwhelmingly through Dayspring ChristianUniversity. From these beginnings we have grown until we have students from around the country. We have not set upbranch campuses but we have a training center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where we hold all of ourgraduations in June. In June we also graduate over 100 students in the Fort Worth and Dallas Area.Wehave also begun to issue our degrees through our association with Zoe Theological Seminary in Lagos, andDayspring Bible Institute in Benin City, Nigeria and in a few schools in Accra, Ghana. Our Lord has beenfaithful to send God fearing people, loving and faithful men and women to become a part of the faculty ofthis great venture. I cannot thank Him enough for the quality workers He has placed alongside us as our colaborers in the execution of this complex task.Sincerely in Christ,Dr. Denis Francois, Chancellor
