TRUCKDAVID (cont'd)Something terrible is gonna happen,it's actually happening right nowand it's gonna hit the news in anyminute. You need to act before ithits the news. You got that? VETERINARIAN SHOPWANDA's teammate PENNY is in the same room.PENNYWho was it?WANDA(after a break)Give me the remote.PENNY picks it up and throws it to her, she puts up the volumeon a TV set. Then she keeps changing channels, until she stopson BBC News.

She doesn't see anything so special right away, so she putsher phone down and keeps working on her pet.INT.POLICE STATION - DAYKATHARINE HARRIS, a police detective, is inside her ownoffice, on the phone behind her desk, receiving an emergencycall, taking notes with a pen.KATHARINEThank you.She stands up, a piece of paper in her hand. She looks dazed. She leaves her office and walks through the station, strangelyempty. Almost everybody has converged towards another office.A private office. They are all gathered at the door, andpretty agitated, all talking together at the same time. She manages to find her way through the pack and sees theLIEUTENANT in his office, seated behind his desk. There is apile of reports on the table. He's busy reading one of them, then he gets rid of it and takes another on the pile. After a very short moment he gets rid of it as well and getsanother he gets rid of quickly, then he looks up at the peoplepacked at his door.LIEUTENANTWhat the hell is this?(as he stands up)God knows if I have worked plentyof cases at the same time in mycareer, but this.(he shakes his head).this is nuts.He leaves his office through the human pack. Nobody says athing to him, except.KATHARINE, who hands him the report she has.KATHARINELieutenant, we just received somemore calls, we also have somefootage now, coming from CCTVoperators, may I suggest you have alook?

The LIEUTENANT stops and looks at her, stunned. He sees thereport.KATHARINE (cont'd)I got all of it on my computer.LIEUTENANTYou're not the only one. It's alreadyeverywhere. He passes her, not taking the report. He looks highly surprised about how quickly all this is going. The reports had come in within less than fifteen minutes, andall of them were about the same thing.LIEUTENANT (cont'd)Let's have that look. I hope it's notsome stupid kid joke.He goes to a corner of the station where a big screen is sethigh up on a wall. It's divided into 16 square screens. The LIEUTENANT enters the place, almost all his squad follows. The footage is played as soon as he looks up.What they see defies our imagination. It is like a riot, butwith something else. The police or army is not involved. Onlycivilian people attacking other civilian people, and doing itwith extreme violence. and for absolutely no reason.Everybody is watching, like hypnotized, unable to move and sayanything. It lasts a moment until the LIEUTENANT turns.LIEUTENANTHey, what are you doing? Wake up!They all do as he speaks.LIEUTENANT (cont'd)What? Am I dumb, or am I supposed togo out there by myself and play Ramboon these guys? Just move and send allunits there! Everything you have! AndI want the whole area sealed off withina 30-mile radius! 30 miles, you hearme?

The ones concerned disperse at once. Some others stay close tohim. KATHARINE included. As he watches again:KATHARINESir, there's something I need to showyou. It's very important.LIEUTENANTWhat? We are watching it right now.KATHARINEThat report is about something on thefootage. About what could have startedthis. It's there but I suggest we havea look.LIEUTENANTWe have footage about this?KATHARINEApparently yes.LIEUTENANTLet's see it.They go to a desk and a computer on it, controlling the bigscreen, and both have a seat in front.KATHARINEOne CCTV operator found it and wrotethat report he followed to us asquickly as he could. She starts working on the computer and soon, the big screenshows one image instead of sixteen. She rewinds the image.KATHARINE (cont'd)Okay. apparently it all startedfrom that spot. The image shows a big white truck, with no outside mark orbrand, parking. Then. three black shapes coming off theback, entering a building.LIEUTENANTWhat is this? Some robbery?KATHARINEIt may be what happened before this(MORE)

KATHARINE (cont'd)whole thing started, sir. Those threeguys are hooded, but they have no guns.LIEUTENANTThey have no guns? What's making youso sure about that?KATHARINEI'm not, sir. The operator is. Youshould be as well when you see whathappens next. Now the place they justgot in, it's not a bank or anythingelse financial. It's something else.LIEUTENANTIt can be anything. Like some flat.KATHARINENot on this. I don't think any robberwould break in any flat in downtownLondon during daytime.LIEUTENANTDon't be too sure about that either. She fast-forwards the tape.KATHARINEFrom the report, they came out sixminutes later. She keeps fast-forwarding, until. the footage shows themcoming out.Five people instead of three. All acting mad. And attackingpeople at once.LIEUTENANT(astonished)My God.KATHARINENotice anything?LIEUTENANTYes, that's the starting point allright.

KATHARINEAnd the three guys, sir, the threeguys.LIEUTENANTThey brought out some friends.KATHARINEWith their hoods off. They don't wearthem any more.LIEUTENANTThat's right. This means we'll beable to identify them. This is verygood.KATHARINESir, you won't be able to even gofor them. They've gone mad. They'refinished.LIEUTENANTOf course. She freezes the image.KATHARINEAnything else?LIEUTENANTYes, the guy in white.KATHARINEMust be some scientist. Doctor, orresearcher.LIEUTENANTOh.KATHARINEIt means that the guys broke in amedical or research place. Like aclinic, or a lab. And that theyunleashed something that should havestayed locked.LIEUTENANTYes. holy shit. She plays the footage again.

KATHARINELook at this. The footage shows the truck abruptly starting, then stoppingabout fifty yards ahead. Then the driver gets out of the truck and runs away, frantically, like he's chased by the Devil Himself. Until heenters a phone box.The guy is all dressed in black, like those who entered themysterious place. He's not hooded.LIEUTENANTHe escaped from his own friends.KATHARINEIt's possible to identify this guy.LIEUTENANT(showing no joy)Good, you do that. Very good job.(he stands up)You do that while I alert all themedias, right away. She nods, he leaves.INT.TRUCK – DAYDAVID is still heading to the school. His radio is on. 28LIEUTENANTreports we received, once they getinfected, they start running around andthey do it very quickly, frantically, without stopping, until they hitanybody else. That's mainly why it'sspreading that fast. The undergroundtraffic also helps much. If possible, don't wait until they rush to you topull the trigger, since their infectedblood may hit you and reach your eyesor enter your mouth. The situation wasconsidered so serious that the upperhand was just given to the army, overthe government.INT. PATROL 76BRIAN and JEFF look at each other as the LIEUTENANT continues.LIEUTENANT (v.o., cont'd)The army's already given everyone theinstruction to stay home, lock their doorsand windows and close their shutters. They've also posted soldiers in front ofevery public place in town, especiallyschools and hospitals, it doesn't mean youcan't use your guns on those things anymore. But it means that all our regularcommunications will be shut down. We alsocan expect radio and TV stations to stopbroadcasting in any minute, until thesituation is under control again. That’swhy I asked you not to try to ask anyquestion and to start any discussion. Wedon't have much time left. Just keepusing our cars to go home and put yourfamilies together and safe. There'll be nobody to questionhim, not even to take him to the toilet. You'll have to let him go.DAVIDI knew it.BRIANDon't play with us now.DAVIDI'm not. I could have said that waybefore, but I'm polite.LIEUTENANT (v.o.)All this is your fault, mister. If Iwere you I wouldn't be so proud.DAVIDGo say that to those who made thatstinky virus.LIEUTENANT (v.o.)I'm saying that to you. You were stupidenough to try to release animals thathave been injected with all kinds of shit. You also know that most lab experimentsare classified. It's your only fault.BRIANLieutenant, instead of letting him go,what about shooting him right away? Hedeserves to pay, he should pay.DAVIDI wasn't inside the lab, I didn't seewhat happened. If we knew for sure that(MORE)

DAVID (cont'd)the chimps were infected with that shit,we'd have shot them all, instead oftrying to set them free.LIEUTENANT (v.o.)No excuses, please. You're the ones whoreleased that thing. Nobody else did.DAVIDI'm not saying otherwise. Do you reallybelieve we didn't suffer? My own friendsattacked me. Now they're gone. I reallylucked out.LIEUTENANT (v.o.)You guys take him home. Once there withhis family he won't be able to goanywhere, it's too dangerous, I guess heknows it better than anybody else. Overand out.He cuts. JEFF puts down the radio.DAVID(after a few seconds of silence)Well, I would say you ain't cops any more. What do you say?BRIANYou're right, asshole, but you knowwhat? We ain't taxi drivers either.DAVIDWhat do you mean?JEFFIf you really believe we'll take youhome, you're out of your mind.DAVIDAnd what about what your lieutenantsaid?BRIANYou just told us, we ain't cops anymore. You're right about that. Andour radio communications will be shutdown at any time. He'll never know.
