2015 Annual ReportThe Commission for ContinuingEducation Provider Recognition(CCEPR) was established by theAmerican Dental Association in2014 to oversee the ContinuingEducation Recognition Program(ADA CERP). ADA CERP also provides dental regulatory agencies with a sound basisfor uniform acceptance of CE credits that are mandated by licensing jurisdictionsin the United States for maintenance of dental licensure.Through an application and review process, the Commission for ContinuingEducation Provider Recognition evaluates and recognizes institutions, organizations and individuals that provide continuing dental education. CE providersare evaluated in 14 aspects of program quality set forth in the ADA CERPRecognition Standards and Procedures. Providers approved through theprogram are designated as ADA CERP Recognized Providers. CCEPR 2015 ActivitiesRevising the ADA CERP RecognitionStandardsThe Commission is undertaking a comprehensivereview of the CERP Recognition Standards to helpensure that the CERP Standards continue to establishrelevant criteria for quality continuing dentaleducation. In 2015 the Commission issued a callfor general comments and suggestions from thecommunities of interest regarding the Standards.Based on the feedback received, the Commissionplans to move forward in 2016 with the reviewand revision process. The Commission will focus onconsolidating Standards, reducing the number andprescriptiveness of criteria, and emphasizing thosemost essential to continuing dental education thatsupports professionals’ ability to provide the bestpossible care, improve patient outcomes, and protectpatient safety. The Commission will invite input andfeedback from stakeholders during the review andrevision process.Communications and OutreachThe Commission holds an educational workshopfor CE providers each year during the ADA annualmeeting. In 2015, members of the Commissionpresented a session in Washington, D.C. A workshopwill be held in Denver as part of ADA 2016 – America’s Dental Meeting. Commission representativesalso participated in the 2015 Annual Meeting of theAssociation for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE).Comprehensive information about ADA CERPis published on the Commission’s websiteADA.org/CCEPR, including a newsletter forCERP Recognized Providers. Minutes of theCommission’s meetings, announcements andcalls for comments are also posted on the site.page 2CCEPR n 2015 Annual Report2015 Recognition ActionsThe Commission reviewed 176 applications for ADACERP recognition in 2015 and 29 progress reports.The Commission granted continued recognition to139 providers. A total of 23 new providers weregranted recognition. Two providers were formallynotified of the Commission’s intent to withdrawrecognition in six months unless the providersupplied information demonstrating compliance withprogram requirements by that time. Recognition waswithdrawn from two providers for failure to meetprogram requirements. Fourteen providers voluntarilydiscontinued participation in the program.

ADA CERPRecognized ProvidersAs of December 2015, 442 providers of continuing dental educationwere ADA CERP recognized. CERP recognized providers were distributedamong a variety of provider types, shown in Table 1 and Figure 2.Table 1. International Provider Participation in CERPSeventeen providers based outside the United States and Canada arecurrently ADA CERP recognized. International providers must completea pre-application process and demonstrate that they meet the EligibilityCriteria for International Providers prior to submitting an application forADA CERP recognition. In 2015, the Commission revised the categoriesof eligible international providers to include dental schools and universitybased CE programs, national governmental health agencies, professional membership associations, and companies dedicated to producingmedical and/or dental education or communications.CERP Recognized Providers — CE Activities in 2014The Commission collects and publishes aggregated information on thesize and scope of ADA CERP recognized providers’ CE programs on anannual basis as a service to program participants and other stakeholders.Information published in this report is based upon data reported byindividual ADA CERP recognized providers regarding activities held inthe previous year. The Commission attempts to investigate and resolvereporting irregularities, but relies on the accuracy of the informationreported by the providers.Table 3.
