During 2015, we celebrated 127 years of providingneeded and valuable programs and services for women and their families. TheYW continues the tradition of being an innovator in providing programs and services to meet the changing needs of women and their families in our community.Continued leadership and participation with the Schenectady County EmbracesDiversity (SCED) Study Circle Initiative, hosting the 21st Annual Unsung Heroine/Black History Month Celebration, the Take Back the Night March, the Week Without Violence, the Pink and Purple Ribbon Campaigns, the Golf Tournament, theFestival of Trees, the Early Learning Center’s Spring Carnival and Fall Festival, aZumbathon, and the Women of Achievement Celebration and Dinner were some ofthe events and activities that were presented to our membership and the community. Throughout the year, we challenged people to take a stand against violenceand racism, appreciate diversity and celebrate unity.During 2015 we once again strengthened the inseparable relationship betweenprograms/services and funding. Financial support is a measure of the community’s valuation of the YWCA of Schenectady dba the YWCA NorthEastern NY weare pleased to announce that funding levels were increased in 2015. We thank ourcorporate sponsors, our many contributors in the community and our membership. historyhistory2015 highlightsThe YWCA of Schenectady, dba YWCA NorthEastern NY (NENY), has along and proud history. Since 1888, the YWCA NorthEastern NY hasbeen a constant innovator in providing programs and services to meetthe changing needs of women and their families in the community.The Board of Directors understands and encourages the YW’s role asan agent for change that quickly reviews and responds to communitysituations as they arise. The YWCA NorthEastern NY diligently strivesto offer programs and services that initiate action to bring aboutpositive change.The YWCA NorthEastern NY was established as a women’smembership association and became one of the first nonprofitagencies to be incorporated in New York State. The YWCA NENY is aCharter member of the YWCA USA (the oldest and largest women’smembership organization in the world). During 2015, the YWCA withits headquarters in the Stockade section of Schenectady, NY, servedover 10,000 women, men and children through a variety of programsand services - 78% of whom are low-income.The original incorporation papers stated that the functions of theYWCA NorthEastern NY were: 1. housing; 2. education; and 3. healthpromotion services. In 1979, the incorporation papers were expandedto allow for a domestic violence shelter for women and children.In 1985, they were again expanded to allow for early childhoodeducation (preschool/child care).Throughout its 127 year history, the YWCA has offered valuableprograms and activities for the benefit of women and their familiesin the Schenectady community. The YWCA NorthEastern NY hascontinued to successfully expand throughout the years in response tothe changing and growing needs of the community.Junior League ofSchenectady andSaratoga Counties,donating femininehygiene products,Distributing DiscreetDignity Project.YWCA Resident’senjoying theSoroptimistInternational ofSchenectadyHoliday Party.Unsung HeroineCelebrationCommunitydonations for ourdomestic violenceprogram.

2015 highlights2015 annual program reportWomen & Family Services Provided 204 women & 74 children shelter fordomestic violence issues Advocacy served 2,768 women 857 women and 162 children received counselingservices 122 women called the YW “home” in our HousingProgram “YES” - YWCA’s Employment Services worked with268 women.-Women olunteers.Visit with SantaduringFestival of Trees.Youth & Family Services Educated and cared for 106 children in our EarlyChildhood Educational Centers Hosted Thanksgiving Dinner for 124 families NAEYC Accredited at both sites.Innovative Programs Wellness Center served 12,907 in 2015 Encore: Take Charge of Your Health provided 891women with educational materials and cancerscreenings CASH Program assisted 1,516 individuals and familieswith filing their tax returns free of charge.
