StandardStandard FeaturesFeaturesDouble BlockWith the ball in open position, the upstream and downstreamseats are forced against the ball by the line pressure. Withthe ball in the closed position the upstream seat is forcedagainst the ball by the line pressure. The downstream seatis forced against the ball by the springs. The vent and drainvalves allow the bleeding off of trapped body cavity pressure.This double block and bleed function makes it possible toflush the valve under pressure and verify the seats are sealingproperly. (Figure 1)andBleedFigure 1Vent ValveDrain ValveS e a l i n g F e at u r eAll Trunnion ball valves utilize the differential between thesealing diameter of the seat insert/ball contact and the outerdiameter of the seat. The difference between these areastimes the line pressure is the sealing force. When line pressureis so low that the force generated by the different diameterscannot seal, the seat springs provide the force. Seat sealant fittings are also standard on the 6” andlarger valves. These sealant fittings can be used to provide atemporary seal in the event of damage incurred from fire orline media contamination.(Figure 4)Figure 4GWC Valve InternationalGWC Trunnion Ball valves are designed with a secondarymetal-to-metal seal after a fire. When the primary soft sealsare destroyed by fire, the fire-safe seals energize the seatassembly to seal. The differential seat area energized by linepressure with the spring force loads the seat into the ball. AllGWC Model FF and GG Trunnion Mounted ball valves havebeen tested to API-607/API-6FA. (Figure 3)7
