Board President & CEO MessageDear Friends and Supporters,Child Care Council offers an array of innovativeprograms and services that are the buildingblocks of high-quality child care. In 2015,through our work on behalf of families,children, providers, and employers, we madegreat strides in improving the quality of childcare in Monroe, Livingston, and Waynecounties.Jason KieferBarbara-Ann MattleCEOBoard PresidentThis annual impact report details the Council’soutcomes in the past year. These range fromthe number of children placed in high-quality child care programs, to the number of providerstaking advantage of our training programs, to the number of child care businesses we helpedestablish and much more.Other agency highlights during the past year included: Collaborating with Sesame Workshop and Child Care Aware of America to launch acommunity outreach effort to build resilience and self-esteem among young children. Completing a two-year project with Clean and Healthy New York and Children’sEnvironmental Health Network to train more than 400 child care providers on how toremove toxic chemicals from their child care settings and how to choose moreenvironmentally friendly products. Graduating the largest Spanish-language Child Development Associate (CDA) class inUpstate, N.Y. Continuing to offer the Safe Sitter babysitting training program that prepares young teensand adolescents to handle emergencies when caring for younger children.The tremendous outcomes achieved in 2015 are the direct result of the hard work of our staffand leadership team, the commitment of our board of directors, and the support of our fundersand donors. Working together, we have laid more building blocks toward achieving our ultimategoal of ensuring child care of the highest quality.

Spanish-language CDA15Providers graduated from theCouncil’s first Spanish-languageChild Development Associate(CDA) training - the largestclass of its kind in Upstate N.Y.On February 27, 2015, 15 Latino child care providerswho serve children in the City of Rochester earnedcertificates for completing their CDA credentialcoursework at Child Care Council. For the first time,the Council offered its CDA training course in Spanishthrough its Latino services team (pictured below, withCEO Barbara-Ann Mattle).

Whatever questions I have, big or small,Council staff members always take the time to answer them.“Most recently, I participated in the Programming with a Purposeclass series. The classes were very informative, and they taught medifferent ways to incorporate how each age group can learn whileusing their small and large motor skills. The Programming with aPurpose series taught me how to use various materials and propsalready in our daycare setting. These classes left me wanting tolearn even more!“Without question, Child Care Council goes above and beyond thecall of duty to help my daycare be successful. Landrigan, M.D., Dean for Global Health at the Mount SinaiMedical Center, spoke at Child Care Council in January 2015. With therate of childhood diseases — such as autism, diabetes, obesity, andcancer — on the rise, Dr. Landrigan discussed how chemicals found inour homes, schools, and communities could be playing a role in thistroubling trend. Landrigan was the first guest lecturer brought toRochester by the Finger Lakes Children’s Environmental Health Center(FLCEHC) at UR Medicine’s Golisano Children’s Hospital.
