Dew Point/ TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTIONVaisala DRYCAP Sensor for MeasuringDew PointIn 1997 Vaisala introduced DRYCAP , a new type of dew point sensor based on thin-film polymertechnology. Since its launch, the DRYCAP product family has grown to encompass a huge rangeof applications, from drying processes to compressed air and dry chambers. The DRYCAP sensoris particularly renowned for its reliable performance in hot and very dry environments. How It WorksDRYCAP’s unrivalled performance isbased on two innovations: the provencapacitive thin-film polymer sensorand the auto-calibration function. The sensor’s thin-film polymerabsorbs or releases water vapor asthe surrounding humidity increasesor decreases. The dielectricproperties of the polymer changeas the humidity around the sensorchanges, as does the capacitance ofthe sensor. Capacitance is convertedinto a humidity reading. Thecapacitive polymer sensor is bondedtogether with a temperature sensor, and dew point is calculated from thehumidity and temperature readings.Vaisala’s patented auto-calibrationfunction optimizes the measurementstability at low dew points. The sensor is heated at regularintervals during the automatedauto-calibration procedure. Thehumidity and temperature readings82are monitored as the sensor coolsto ambient temperature, with offsetcorrection compensating for anypotential drift. This enables theDRYCAP sensor to deliver accuratemeasurements in the long term, dramatically reducing the need formaintenance.Typical Applications forDew Point MeasurementVaisala DRYCAP dew pointinstruments measure dew point inindustrial applications, where gashumidity is typically very low. Dewpoint is often a critical parameter, with inadequate control resulting inproblems such as process downtime, damaged process equipment, anddeterioration in end-product quality.Dew point is measured in variousdrying and heat-treatment processes. It is also controlled in compressedair, where excess moisture can resultin poor end-product quality, iceformation, and equipment corrosion.DRYCAP in Brief Thin-film polymer sensor withunique auto-calibration function Wide measurement range, dewpoint measurement down to-80 C (-112 F) Accuracy 2 C ( 3.6 F)NIST-traceable dew pointmeasurementDRYCAP’s Unique Benefits Excellent long-term stability, with recommended 2-yearcalibration interval Rapid response time Resistant to particulatecontamination, oil vapor, andmost chemicalsWithstands condensation andrecovers rapidly

Traditional humidityinstruments were not accurateenough at very low humidities, while commonly used aluminumoxide sensors were prone to driftand required frequent calibration. There was strong demand foraccurate, easy-to-use, costeffective, and low-maintenancedew point instruments.Vaisala's solution was to combinethe highest quality polymertechnology with a patented keyfeature – auto-calibration – thatwould eliminate sensor drift invery dry conditions. The resultwas the stable, reliable, andaccurate DRYCAP sensor.DRYCAP also led the way for thenext great innovation: the world’sfirst transmitter that monitorsboth dew point and processpressure simultaneously, aimedat compressed air customersworldwide. The story continues. The first DRYCAP products werelaunched in 1997, and this highlysuccessful innovation is still goingstrong today. For more information, visitwww.vaisala.com or contactus at sales@vaisala.comRef. The DRYCAP sensor isnotable for its swift response timeand rapid recovery after getting wet.Measure Humidity Directlyin Hot ProcessesThe DMT345 and DMT346 arebuilt for direct measurement inhot processes. Therefore, thereis no need for sampling systemsand trace heating. As a result, high measurement accuracy andconstancy are maintained.90The accuracy and stability of theDMT345 and the DMT346 are due totheir unique auto-calibration function, developed by Vaisala. This featureallows the transmitter to performcalibration and adjustment by itselfwhile the measured process isrunning. If the measurement accuracyis not confirmed, corrections aremade automatically. The procedureis so quick and corrections sominor that it causes no disruption, ensuring easy maintenance and highperformance. In normal conditions, itis recommended to have a traceablecalibration performed once a year.DMT345: Accurate in Hotand Dry EnvironmentsThe DMT345 is designed for accuratehumidity measurement in hot anddry conditions. This model providesunmatched dry-end measurementaccuracy at temperatures up to 140 C;however, it can operate safely attemperatures up to 180 C.Features/Benefits The DMT345 measureshumidity at temperatures up to180 C (356 F) The DMT346 measureshumidity at temperatures up to350 C ( 662 F) Dew point accuracy 2 C( 3.6 F) Vaisala DRYCAP sensorprovides accurate and reliablemeasurement with excellentlong-term stability and fastresponse time Condensation-resistant Graphical display and keypadfor convenient operation Optional alarm relays andmains power supply module Analog outputs, RS232/485,WLAN/LAN MODBUS protocol support(RTU/TCP)Unique auto-calibration featureNIST traceable calibration(certificate included)
