2OverviewFor the last 30 years, Momentum has been offering Calgarians a preapprenticeship trades training program that prepares people like you tobuild their skills and get the certificates they need to start working andbuilding a career in a high demand working field.Before you apply to our training program, please ask yourself: Do you want to work in the construction or manufacturing industries? Do you want to build your skills to become a professional in your trade? Are you able to commit to full-time training? Are you looking for a good job?PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAYou will be eligible to take the program if you:o Are an Immigrant (people who were born outside of Canada) or an Indigenousperson (no status required)o Have a "can-do" attitudeo Meet Momentum's math and english requirementso In good physical and mental healtho In a stable living environmento Hold clear employment goalso Understand the construction workplaceo Eligible for Alberta Government fundingo Ready, willing, and able to commit to the entire program and work aftercompleting the programo Have a verified MyAlberta Digital ID accountPre-Apprenticeship TrainingInformation Package

3ABOUT THE PROGRAMMomentums Trades Training program is a Pre-Apprenticeship training programfunded by the government, and if you are eligible, the program is free for you.The is a 25 week (6 month) full-time training program that includes in-class learningwith hands on practice and on-the-job training.The program includes 3 components:Component # 1: Academic UpgradingDuration: 13 weeks.Scope: Full-time, Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.Location: MomentumLearning goals: This part of the program aims to help you pass the AlbertaApprenticeship entrance exam and equip you with relevant employability skills.This part will include courses in English, communication for the workplace, math& science, and classes that will teach you how to write your resume, search for ajob, and hold a job. You will also be trained and receive your FIRST AID/ CPRcertificate.Component # 2: Technical Training at SAITDuration: 6 weeksScope: Full-time, Monday – FridayLocation: Southern Alberta Institution of Technology (SAIT), main campusLearning Goals: You will learn the technical skills required to enter the trade.During this part of the program, you will train and receive two additional safetytickets: WHMIS and CSTS (Construction Safety Training System).Component # 3: Work ExperienceDuration: 6 weeks: The program offers work experience with a local company.Scope: Full Time, Monday to FridayLocation: EmployerLearning Goals: in this part, you will work with an employer that will provide youwith hands on training in a real trade environment.Please Note: While employment is not guaranteed after the program, our dynamicemployment team is committed to working with you and providing job search andemployment support.PROGRAM FUNDING INFORMATIONPre-Apprenticeship TrainingInformation Package

4The trades training program at Momentum is funded by the Province of Alberta and theFederal Government, and if you are eligible, it is free for you.For more information about the financial support – the program facilitator will be happy toprovide you with more information.APPLICATION AND ENROLMENT STEPSThere are only 6 mandatory steps you should follow if you wish to join the Momentumtrades training program.Please follow the steps below. At any point, if you experience challenges or need help –please feel free to contact any of the program intake team (contact information islocated on the front and the last page of this package).1. Create a MyAlberta ID accountThe trades program at Momentum program is funded by the government of Alberta andis free for you.The government of Alberta requires every applicant to create an account throughMyAlberta Digital ID.You can create the account by clicking on the link below: https://account.alberta.ca/You will be asked to verify your identity with an Alberta driver's license or an Albertaidentification card. Please make sure you have this proof of identification2. Create or obtain your Alberta Student ID numberYou will need to create an Alberta student number. If you went to school in Alberta, youprobably already have a student ID. If you forgot your number, you could look it up artLookupIf you don't have Alberta's Student ID. Please feel free to request one by clicking on thebelow artAsnRequest3. Complete and submit an application:You can apply to the program by completing an on-line application, or by filling out anapplication in person at Momentum. Applications are emailed to you by visiting theMomentum website at: job/digitaldreamers/ , then click on the orange "Request more info" button and submit yourcontact information. 54. Attend an Information Session:Once the application is received, the Skills Training Team will review your informationand invite you to an Information Session (in person). Please prepare for anapproximately 3-hour session. During the information session, you will be asked tocomplete an English and math exam as part of our assessment process.5. Request an InterviewOnce all forms and assessments have been completed and submitted, applicants willschedule an interview with Momentum Trades Training Team. During the consultation,the program facilitator will review all completed applications and get to know you andyour career goals.6. Notice of acceptance into the programIf satisfactory, a notice of acceptance into the program will be emailed to you by theprogram facilitatorPlease remember: There are a limited number of seats available for each program and a high numberof applicants each year. Applicants must participate in each step of the applicationprocess.
