Identify left and right hearing aidBattery (size 312)It is important to distinguish between the left and the right hearingaid as they might be programmed differently. You can find left/rightcolour indicators in the battery drawer, on 60 and 85 speakers, onthe micro moulds or on LiteTips.Your hearing aid is a miniature electronic device that runs onspecial batteries. To activate the hearing aid, you must insert a newbattery in the battery drawer. Caring for your hearing aidWhen handling your hearing aid, hold it over a soft surface to avoiddamage if you drop it.MicrophoneopeningsClean the microphone openingsCarefully brush away debris from the openings. Gently brush thesurface. Make sure the brush is clean and that it is not pressed intothe openings.Wax filterThe speaker has a white wax filter attached to the end where theearpiece is attached. The wax filter will avoid wax and debris fromdamaging the speaker. Flight modeOptional features and accessoriesWhen boarding an air plane or entering an area where it isprohibited to radiate radio signals, e.g. during flight, flight modemust be activated. The hearing aid will still be working. It is onlynecessary to activate flight mode on one hearing aid.The features and accessories described on the following pages areoptional. Please contact your hearing care professional to find outhow your hearing aid is programmed.To activate and deactivateflight mode. Press thepush button for at least7 seconds. A jingleconfirms your action.If you experience difficult listening situations, a special programmay be helpful. WarningsYou should familiarise yourself fullywith the following general warningsbefore using your hearing aid foryour personal safety and to ensurecorrect use.Please note that a hearing aid willnot restore normal hearing and willnot prevent or improve a hearingimpairment resulting from organicconditions. Furthermore, note thatin most cases, infrequent use of ahearing aid does not permit a userto attain full benefit from it.Consult your hearing care professional if you experience unexpectedoperations or events with yourhearing aid.46AboutStartupHandlingOptionsUsage of hearing aids Hearing aids should be used onlyas directed and adjusted by yourhearing care professional. Misusecan result in sudden and permanent hearing loss. Never allow others to wear yourhearing aid as incorrect usagecould cause permanent damage totheir hearing.Choking hazards & risk ofswallowing batteries Hearing aids, their parts, and batteries should be kept out of reachof children and anyone who mightswallow these items, or otherwisecause injury to themselves.WarningsMore info Batteries have occasionally beenmistaken for pills. Therefore, checkyour medicine carefully beforeswallowing any pills. Most hearing aids can be suppliedwith a tamper-resistant batterydrawer upon request. This isstrongly recommended for infants,small children and people withlearning difficulties. Children below 36 months mustalways use a tamper-resistantbattery drawer. This option isavailable in BTE, miniBTE, RITE andminiRITE hearing aids.If a battery or hearing aid is swallowed, see a doctor immediately.Battery use Always use batteries recommended by your hearing care professional. Batteries of low quality may leakand cause bodily harm. Never attempt to recharge yourbatteries and never dispose of batteries by burning them. There is arisk that the batteries will explode.47
WarningsDysfunction Be aware of the possibility thatyour hearing aid may stop workingwithout notice. Keep this in mindwhen you depend on warningsounds (e.g. when you are intraffic). The hearing aids may stopfunctioning, for instance if the batteries have expired or if the tubingis blocked by moisture or ear wax.Active implants Caution must be taken with activeimplants. In general, follow theguidelines recommended by manufacturers of implantable defibrillators and pacemakers regarding usewith mobile phones and magnets. The Autophone magnet and MultiTool (which has a built-in magnet)should be kept more than 30 cmaway from the implant, e.g. do notcarry it in a breast pocket. If you have an active brain implant,please contact the manufacturerof your implantable device forinformation about the risk sMore infoX-ray, CT, MR, PET scanning andelectrotherapy Remove your hearing aid beforeX-ray, CT/MR/PET scanning electrotherapy, surgery etc. as yourhearing aid may be damaged whenexposed to strong fields.Heat and chemicals The hearing aid must never beexposed to extreme heat e.g.left inside a parked car in the sun. The hearing aid must not be driedin microwave ovens or other ovens. The chemicals in cosmetics,hairspray, perfume, aftershavelotion, suntan lotion and insectrepellent can damage the hearingaid. Always remove your hearingaid before applying such productsand allow time to dry before use.49
WarningsPower instrument Special care should be exercisedin selecting, fitting and using ahearing aid where maximum soundpressure capability exceeds 132 dBSPL (IEC 711), as there may be riskof impairing the remaining hearingof the hearing aid user.For information on whether yourhearing aid is a power instrument,see the back of this leaflet.50AboutStartupHandlingOptionsPossible side effects Hearing aids, moulds or domes maycause an accelerated accumulationof ear wax. The otherwise non-allergenicmaterials used in hearing aids mayin rare cases cause a skin irritationor other side effects.Please seek consultation with aphysician if these conditions occur.WarningsMore infoInterference The hearing aid has been thoroughly tested for interference,according to the most stringentinternational standards. However,interference between the hearingaid and other devices (e.g. somemobile telephones, citizens bandsystems and shop alarm systemsand other devices) may occur. Ifthis occurs, increase the distancebetween the hearing aid and theinterfering device.Use on Aircraft Your hearing aid contains Bluetooth. On board an aircraft, flightmode must be activated, unlessBluetooth is permitted by the flightpersonnel.51

Water & dust resistant (IP68)Your hearing aid is dust-tight and protected against ingress of water whichmeans it is designed to be worn in alldaily life situations. Therefore youdo not have to worry about sweat orgetting wet in the rain. Should yourhearing aid come in contact with water and stop working, please followthe these guidelines:Conditions of use1. Technical informationThe hearing aid contains two radiotechnologies, which are describedbelow:The hearing aid contains a radiotransceiver using short range magnetic induction technology workingat 3.84 MHz.
