Product Installation InstructionsSelection tableNumber of Cables in DuctDuct Inner DiameterDuct Inner DiameterNumber of Cables in DuctNOTES**In ducts where the cable/cable bundle is less than 2.4” (60mm) in diameter, an RDSS-AT/AP-150 device must be used in conjunction withthe RDSS-150.1For duct sizes other than those shown, contact your local Raychem Representative.2The dimension shown in parenthesis is the maximum diameter of the cable or cable bundle for use with the specified RDSSpart number. If your diameter is greater than this number, contact your local Raychem representative.Example: Max. cable diameterMax. cable bundle diameter(for 1 cable installation)(for multi-cable applications)Safety Rules:Lubricant:Protect from frost. In case of eyecontact, flush with clean water during15 minutes, holding eyelids open. Seekmedical attention if irritation persists.Wash with mild soap and water if skinirritation occurs.Gas cylinders:If the carbon dioxide gas cylinders areused to inflate RDSS, the followingsafety rules should be considered. Thegas pressure in the cylinder isapproximately 870 lb/in2 at roomtemperature. Max. operationaltemperature is 120oF (50oC). Keepcool and dry. Use only as instructed inoperating manual of RDSS-IT-16inflator. Misuse can be dangerous. Donot handle the cylinder with unprotectedhands immediately after filling RDSSduct seal. Frostbite can result. When using the RDSS-150, if the cable/bundle is less than 2.4”(60mm) in diameter, an RDSS-AT/AP-150 device must also be used.Application:RDSS will seal ducts with and withoutcable(s). In case three or more cableshave to be sealed, a RDSS sealing clipis use in combination with the RDSSinflatable duct seal. The RDSS-Clipmust be ordered as a separate item.Avoid exposure of the installed RDSSPII-54832, Rev AFDCR C58697duct seal to direct sunlight.Note: For beveled ducts, the RDSSmay not be installed in the beveledportion. Position the RDSS-Clip (ifused) and RDSS bag in the straightportion of the duct.2PCN 380543-000Effective Date: December 24, 1997

Installation InstructionsTooling:RDSS duct seals can be installed with avariety of inflation tools having thecapability to inflate RDSS to 43.5 0.6lb/in2 of pressure. The following toolsare available from Raychem:RDSS-IT-16 inflation tool equipped witha manometer and safety relieve valveusing compressed CO2 gas cylinders(to be ordered separately;part no. E7512-0160).RDSS-IG-SR-AS tool for use withcompressed air or nitrogen tanksRefer to the operating manual of thespecific tool being used.30371INSTALLATION30401303811. It is recommended to wet clean theduct and cable sheath. Remove asmuch dirt, crust, mud, etc. as possible. For ducts with 3 or more cables, continue with step 2.For 0, 1, or 2 cables, skip tostep 9.2. Examples for different multiplecable configuration. One RDSS-Clip can seal up to fourcables. If more cables are to be sealed, use one extra clip per three additionalcables.30404304034. Remove one protection paper andlubricate abundantly the larger surfaceof the clip wing.PII-54832, Rev AFDCR C586975. Repeat steps 3 & 4 for the other clipwings. Remove protection paper onlyafter lubricating at least one wing side.3304023. Open clip wings on one side.Lubricate the wings abundantly, toensure that they don’t stick together.304056. Abundantly lubricate the cables inthe crotch area as much as possible.PCN 380543-000Effective Date: December 24, 1997
