ALGO8028 SIP Doorphone (FW 2.7.4)Important Safety InformationThe 8028 SIP Doorphone is designed and tested to comply with EN 609501:2006 safety requirements.INSTALLATIONWhen the Doorphone Controller is connected to wiring that exits thebuilding, there is potential risk of lightning induced electrical surges or highvoltages from fault conditions. To reduce risk, outdoor wiring should beprotected by Earth grounded conduit whenever possible. If outdoor wiring will be connected to the Doorphone Controller then thepower supply provided with the Doorphone Controller must first beconnected to a properly Earth grounded mains supply. Under nocircumstances can the Doorphone Controller be disconnected from Earthground while connected to outdoor wiring.EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONIf used in an emergency communication application, the 8028 SIPDoorphone should be routinely tested. SNMP supervision isrecommended for assurance of proper operation.Document 90-00054F2017-09-19Page 5Algo Communication Products Ltd4500 Beedie St Burnaby BC Canada V5J 5L2www.algosolutions.com(604) 454-3792support@algosolutions.com

ALGO8028 SIP Doorphone (FW 2.7.4)9. Press the call button on the Door Station, then answer tocommunicate with the Door Station. Press the digit 6 on the phonekeypad to activate the door control relay for three seconds (ifapplicable).ApplicationsTypical Applications for Auxiliary Inputs and OutputsThe 8028 architecture and digital link between the Door Station andController provides flexible options using the auxiliary inputs and outputs. These are some typical applications.Cancel Ring When Door OpenedIn a residential or warehouse installation it is not uncommon for the doorto be answered in person before the phone is answered. Either DoorStation or Control Unit inputs can be configured to cancel ring if the dooris opened before a call is answered. This requires a normally closed ornormally open contact to detect door open.Trigger Door Bell from Door StationWhen the Door Station call button is pressed, either (or both) the DoorStation or Control Unit dry contact output can be configured to activate adoor bell or auxiliary alerting system in addition to phone ring.Trigger Door Station from External Button/EventEither the Control Unit or Door Station can accept a dry contact closure toactivate the Doorphone as if the call button had been pressed. This couldbe an external doorbell button, PIR detector, or some other system.Cancel Door Open Relay once Door OpenedThe door opening control can be set for activation (using the ‘Open Code’)up to 30 seconds (set by the ‘Relay Time’ setting) to allow sufficient timefor entry. For security, the 8028 Doorphone can be configured to cancelDoor Opening once the door is opened to prevent “tailgating” byunauthorized personnel.Document 90-00054F2017-09-19Page 8Algo Communication Products Ltd4500 Beedie St Burnaby BC Canada V5J 5L2www.algosolutions.com(604) 454-3792support@algosolutions.com

ALGO8028 SIP Doorphone (FW 2.7.4)Unlock Door Indefinitely until CanceledThe door opening control can be set to unlock indefinitely (using the‘Latch Open Code’) until canceled (using the ‘Release Code’) that locks itagain. This allows an entrance to be used repeatedly for a period of timewithout requiring multiple activations of the door control relay.Anti-Door TamperA feature of the 8028 Doorphone is to ring the telephone(s) with awarning alert in the event a door is ajar due to tampering (such as adoor blocked open after being legitimately released for a visitor).In-User and RingEither the Control Unit or Door Station can be configured to provide a drycontact output during ring or in-use for channel selection (typically) ofthird party video monitoring systems.Document 90-00054F2017-09-19Page 9Algo Communication Products Ltd4500 Beedie St Burnaby BC Canada V5J 5L2www.algosolutions.com(604) 454-3792support@algosolutions.com

ALGO8028 SIP Doorphone (FW 2.7.4)Door Station InstallationThe Door Station, provided with the 8028 Doorphone kit, is weatherprotected for outdoor installation. However if network cablingextends beyond the perimeter of the building then adequate lightningprotection is required to protect the cabling and network switch fromlightning surges. No lightning protection is required by UL or CSA ifthe Door Station is located on the outside wall of a building and thewiring is inside the perimeter of the building.1. Remove the Door Station faceplate2. Determine if you want a flush or surface mount installationFor surface mount:ooooDiscard the smaller flushmount gasket.Verify the correct orientationof the surface mount gasket.Thread the wires through thecenter hole, then through thesurface mount bracket.Fasten the surface mountbracket at the desiredlocation on the wallFor flush mount:(Using a dual gang electrical boxembedded in the wall)ooDocument 90-00054F2017-09-19Page 11Discard the larger surfacemount gasket and bracket.Slide the flush mount gasketonto the main housingassembly.Algo Communication Products Ltd4500 Beedie St Burnaby BC Canada V5J 5L2www.algosolutions.com(604) 454-3792support@algosolutions.com

ALGO8028 SIP Doorphone (FW 2.7.4)Door or Gate Control BasicsControl contacts are provided from the Doorphone Controller and aretypically used for door strike activation or gate control. For security, the door control relay is located in the Controller to avoid entry bytampering.Door ReleaseDoor release typically involves energizing or de-energizing a doorstrike which pivots to allow a locked door to open without retractionof the latch bolt. There are two different types of door strikes: “Fail Locked” (or “Fail Secure”) “Fail Unlocked” (or “Fail Safe”)Fail Locked / Fail Secure Electric StrikeThese require power to release andremain locked during power failure. Thedoor may still normally be opened fromthe outside with a key, or from insidewithout a key. The door control relay isused to apply power to release the door.Fail Unlocked / Fail Safe ElectricStrikeThese (as well as magnetic locks), requirepower to lock and become unlockedduring power failure. The door controlrelay is used to maintain power to thedoor lock (NC and C contacts) which isinterrupted to release the door. Magneticlocks may require override systems toallow safety exit in the event of fire.Document 90-00054F2017-09-19Page 12Algo Communication Products Ltd4500 Beedie St Burnaby BC Canada V5J 5L2www.algosolutions.com(604) 454-3792support@algosolutions.com
