CASCADE HIGH SCHOOLASB UpdateDear Cascade Students and Families,This is Scott Pease, Cascade’s ASB President. I hope you have had a wonderful firstcouple months here at cascade this year. I am happy to see everything we haveaccomplished so far and I’m excited for all the things we will achieve throughout therest of the year. Overall, the environment we have created this year at Cascade hasbeen an extremely positive, inclusive, and prideful one.Even though we’re only two months in, Cascade’s ASB has been hard at work tosuccessfully accomplish several things here at Cascade. Our primary focus has beenour Homecoming events earlier this October. We had great participation in our spiritweek dress up days, amazing hallway decorations, an exciting coronation and pep assembly, a fantasticfootball game, and of course, the homecoming dance itself. This year truly highlighted all of our history andtraditions Cascade has to offer. The winner of this year’s spirit trophy was the Class of 2016, the only class thus far towin the spirit trophy twice in their time at Cascade. As we progress through the year, we have some very important events coming up. The major focus moving forwardinto the holiday season will be Cascade’s 55th annual food drive. Our food drive will start the week we get back fromThanksgiving break. Our food drive is one of the biggest in the State, and we provide local families, some even from ourown bruin community, with enough food to help them for a two to three weeks. Last year we raised just under 100,000cans and a little over 25,000 dollars. In order for this event to be successful, it requires the dedication of our wholeentire bruin community. We look forward to seeing how many people we can help this year.On behalf of all of ASB’s officers and your class officers, I thank you for a wonderful start to the school year and weare excited to work with you to make Cascade the positive and inclusive school that we all know and love. If you haveany questions or comments, you can contact Kelly Rogers or please feel to email us at cascadebruinsasb1@gmail.com.Scott PeaseASB PresidentThe Australians are coming!Australians are coming! Homecoming was a week filled with controlled chaos, however was very fun and exciting. As seniors, it is so important for us to take advantage of these school events and reallyenjoy them while they last because it is our last time experiencing them.On Thursday, October 15th, the entire senior class had their first meeting in the cafeteria during PAWS. This meetingwas very important because everyone received information about graduation gear. I can't stress how important it is tomake sure every senior gets their grad orders turned in on time. In addition, we talked about Senior T-shirts, Senior Ball,Grad Night, Senior Photo, and what to expect for the rest of the year.Senior Ball will be in May this year on either the 14th or 21st. My cabinet and I are currently focused on The Great Hallat Union Station as a possible venue. This old train station is beautifully set up and is our top choice however no concretedecisions have been made. We hope to tour the venue sometime soon.Jostens was at the school on October 22nd and 23rdtaking orders for graduation supplies. If you missed theorder days or were unable to order, do not worry! CASCADE HIGH SCHOOLCascade bruin robotics kicks off a new year!Hello! We are Cascade Bruin Robotics. We build robots and compete with them throughout the year. We also go tocool places for outreach events to teach others about US FIRST Robotics. We compete in two separate competitions, FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). TheFTC season started with a kickoff at the Microsoft Redmond campus on September 12th. After kickoff, teams have 12weeks to build a robot that is tailored for this year’s game. What makes it challenging is that each year the game changes. We have to design a new robot each year that can do different things. The FRC season starts right after the new year and we have 6 weeks to build a robot. The challenges are harder and therobots are bigger than those of FTC. Last season we built a robot that stacked crates and was over 6 feet tall! The FTCseason prepares us for FRC because FRC is more intense and faster paced than FTC.During both seasons our mentors teach us skills such as programming, safe operation of machinery, problem solving, developing a business plan, and fundraising! Colleges are looking for students with FIRST Robotics experience. More than 20,000,000 in scholarships are available through US FIRST Robotics! The best part of robotics is that we accept anyonewho is motivated to be part of the team. We need students who can also contribute to the nonengineering aspects of ourorganization, such as photographers, videographers, film editors, artists, musicians, designers, and more! We are hereevery Monday through Thursday after 2:30 PM in the Robotics Room (between building 4 and the auto shop). Feel freeto join anytime!8
