CONFERENCE DESCRIPTIONRDs In Practice is an educational program aimed atadvancing clinical knowledge and ideas in specialtyareas of pediatric nutrition. Didactic lectures,question/answer sessions, and networkingopportunities will allow time for attendees todiscuss emerging topics, evidence based practiceand solutions to practice dilemmas. CHOC’s ClinicalNutrition and Lactation Department has beenhosting conferences providing education forspecialty and/or advanced level registered dietitiansand other professionals since 2013.The aim of this conference is to provide advancedlevel education on infant and toddler nutrition withan emphasis on feeding, allergy, breast milk andformula preparation, and neonatal and surgicalnutrition.Who Should AttendPediatric dietitians, hospital‐based and generalcommunity‐based pediatricians, pediatric nursesand nurse practitioners, lactation consultants,feeding therapists (OT/SLP), and management(quality/risk management, NICU managers, breastmilk/formula managers).Discipline‐Specific Presentations Include Best Practices for Handling Human Milk & Formulain Healthcare FacilitiesLactoengineering & Case‐Based Panel Discussion inUtilizing a Breast Milk Analyzer to Guide ClinicalInterventionsNeonatal and Surgical NutritionComplementary Feeding in Infants at Low‐ andHigh‐Risk of Developing Food AllergiesMedical & Nutritional Management of FPIES & EoEManagement Strategies for a Variety of FeedingChallenges Presenting in Neonates throughToddlerhoodCONFERENCE OUTCOMES1.Provide nutritional management to infants using evidenced‐based guidelines for nutrition support,handling of human milk and formula, breastfeeding, and nutrient composition of human milk andformula.2.Manage feeding challenges of premature infants, children with dysphagia, selective feeders and pickyeaters by utilizing evidenced‐based strategies to improve feeding skills, behaviors and nutrition.3.Provide optimal early nutrition support for surgical infants to improve wound healing, immunity, andpreservation of lean body mass while preventing TPN induced cholestasis and other nutritionalcomplications.4.Recognize the clinical presentation of patients with food allergies, FPIES, and EoE and provideappropriate medical and nutritional management using current best practice guidelines.
