In 2013, the Commission reconvened to examine the impacts of thereforms and recommendations made in its firstreport, released in 2007, and issue additionalfindings and recommendations to better leverage these resources for more than one millionregional residents. This report documents theCommission’s most recent findings.The Commission is comprised of elected officialsand community, civic, nonprofit, and businessleaders from Boston and the metropolitanregion’s beachfront communities and waterfrontneighborhoods. It is co-chaired by Senator TomMcGee and Representative Carlo Basile, and ledand managed by Save the Harbor/Save the Bay.In 2013, the Commission held 10 public hearings—two at the State House and eight in Bos-Representative Nick CollinsFOURTH SUFFOLKton’s waterfront neighborhoods and the region’sbeachfront communities from Nahant to Nantasket. Nearly 1,000 people attended at least onehearing, and shared their thoughts about how toimprove their beach. The Commission also retained the services of the CPA firm Raphael andRaphael LLP, whose findings and recommendations are summarized in this report.In 2014, the Commission invited all those whotook part in its process to review preliminaryfindings and recommendations, in order to makecertain that we got it right. This report reflectsthe hard work and commitment of so many whocare deeply about the beaches and are dedicatedto improving the quality of life in our communities.
