Annual Report2018A Letter from LeadershipDear Friends,2018 was full of blessings for us at theWomen’s Housing Coalition, and we haveyou to thank for that!We continue to work with the mostvulnerable of populations. Our residents allhave a disability (the majority have several)that affects their ability to obtain andmaintain housing. Small goals like learning tomanage their anger and getting along withothers all lead to being able to work on otherskills like budgeting their money and workingtowards “job readiness.”Because of you and your continued support,we have several highlights we want to sharewith you: 100% of our residents maintained theirhousing with us or moved on to other stablehousing, which is a huge accomplishment. 22 people started new jobs or maintainedtheir existing job. We started an exciting relationship withThe Junior League of Baltimore. We wereselected as one of their three partnerorganizations in Baltimore that focus onwomen. They hold activities throughout theyear for our ladies, leading things like bingo,game nights, nutrition classes, yoga events,and much more. Our residents participated in a lovely dayat Sandy Point State Park in July, where theyenjoyed a delicious barbeque meal, games, andsunshine. Everyone returned home with a newbeach towel, and the kids received sand toysand other games. We secured several capital grants. Theseallowed us to make significant energyenhancements to two of our buildings, whichwill lead to improved operating costs. Othergrants allowed us to stabilize external areas thatwere aging but of architectural significance.Providing high quality housing, whether inbuildings we own or in those we rent fromothers, is a point of pride here at the WHC.Everyone is treated with dignity and respect aswe believe, “There are no throw away people!”Our residents are incredible survivors; movingalong in their daily life, meeting with their caseworker, and setting and working toward theirindividual goals are big achievements.You have our sincere admiration and thanks foryour support along the way.
