Mostsignificantly, attending classes is difficult or impossible forworking adults due to employment and family obligations, andtraditional curriculum often does not correspond with theprofessional goals of mature adults. He envisioned a barrierfree university that people could attend from remotelocations—such as their own homes—at their convenience.Capella University is wholly owned by Capella EducationCompany, a Minnesota corporation. In 1993, Dr. Harold Abel, an experienced leader in highereducation and a former president of three universities, joinedMr. Shank to serve as founding president and academic leaderof Capella. Dr. Abel assembled a premier faculty, builtgraduate curricula, and guided the university toward academicaccreditation. In 1997, during the presidency of Dr. BruceFrancis, Capella achieved accreditation by The HigherThe undergraduate learning experience was enhanced by areorganization of schools in 2004 to form the School ofUndergraduate Studies and the School of Business andTechnology in addition to the existing schools of Education,Human Services, and the Harold Abel School of Psychology.Affirmative ActionCapella University is an affirmative action employer.Institutional AccreditationCapella University225 South Sixth StreetNinth FloorMinneapolis, MN 554021.888.CAPELLA (227.3552)www.capella.edu
