He envisioned a barrierfree university that people could attend from remotelocations—such as their own homes—at their convenience.Capella University is wholly owned by Capella EducationCompany, a Minnesota corporation. In 1993, Dr. Harold Abel, an experienced leader in highereducation and a former president of three universities, joinedMr. Shank to serve as founding president and academic leaderof Capella. In 1997, during the presidency of Dr. BruceFrancis, Capella achieved accreditation by The HigherThe undergraduate learning experience has been enhancedby a reorganization of schools in 2004 to form the School ofUndergraduate Studies and the School of Business andTechnology in addition to the existing schools of Education,Human Services, and the Harold Abel School of Psychology.Affirmative ActionCapella University is an affirmative action employer.Institutional AccreditationCapella University225 South Sixth StreetNinth FloorMinneapolis, MN 554021.888.CAPELLA (227.3552)www.capella.edu
