Charting a New CourseIn 2017, America’s ToothFairy: National Children’s Oral Health Foundation (NCOHF) charted a newcourse by expanding our community of partners and collaborators engaged in improving oralhealth outcomes and our array of resources supporting service delivery for underserved children.Our programs and resources now fall into two categories: Prevention and Access to Care. Throughour Prevention programs, we provided training and resources to stakeholders in 47 states, includingmore than 200 schools. We distributed more than 300,000 oral care products to underservedchildren and families. Thousands of volunteer students, Scouts, service groups and organizationsutilized NCOHF resources to educate and equip underserved children and their caregivers with theknowledge and tools to prevent tooth decay. This year, non-profit and safety-net clinics – relying onresources provided through our Access to Care programs – provided oral health services to morethan 870,000 underserved children and their caregivers.We are excited about our progress this year. But there are still far too many children who experiencethe unnecessary pain and dire consequences of untreated dental disease. Oral Health Zone ProgramThe Oral Health Zone Program integrates all NCOHF programs, resources and partnerships into apowerful, comprehensive oral health effort focused on a specific locale. The Oral Health Zone Programengages community stakeholders in a community-based approach to eliminating severe tooth decayand implementing strategies for oral health education and service delivery.ArkansasIn 2017, the Arkansas Oral Health Zone Program completed its third year of outreach thanks togenerous support from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation. Through valuable collaborationswith the Arkansas Oral Health Coalition, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Special Olympics ofArkansas, and others, new populations of underserved children are accessing vital oral healthservices and education.Los Angeles County, CAWith a special focus on Latino students in the L.A. Unified SchoolDistrict, the Los Angeles Oral Health Zone is strengthening a countywide emphasis on oral health. In collaboration with the L.A. Trustfor Children’s Health, the Child Development Institute and manyother community partners, the Los Angeles Oral Health Zone trainscommunity oral health educators, engages parents as oral healthadvocates and provides Latino students opportunities for volunteerservice and exploration of dental careers.8

MinnesotaNow in its fourth year, the Minnesota Oral Health Zone is a statewide initiative with more than170 touchpoints across the state. With generous support from the Delta Dental of MinnesotaFoundation, the Minnesota Oral Health Zone provides school districts, Head Start, universitydental programs and other organizations a wide array of resources to support delivery ofpreventive services and treatment for underserved children.Orange County, CAEstablished in 2014, the Orange County Oral Health Zone iscollaborating with the Orange County School Nurse Association,Head Start, Assistance League and dozens of other communitypartners and clinics to increase the proportion of studentsreceiving vital dental services each year. A broad network ofhigh school and college students, dental students and healthprofessionals also support the Orange County Oral Health Zoneby delivering oral health education and oral care products tochildren at high risk for tooth decay.America’s ToothFairy also expanded several other OralHealth Initiatives benefiting underserved children andfamilies in Kentucky, New York and Texas.Special thanks to9
