Optional EssayOverview Students who opt to take the SAT Essayare required to make purposeful,substantive use of textual evidence in away that can be objectively evaluated. The essay is not designed to elicitstudents’ subjective opinions. The prompt will remain consistent for alladministrations of the SAT; only thewriting passages will change. Students will receive three scores of 2-8 inReading, Writing, and Analysis.7
