Message from the Program DirectorDear Lifelong Learning Institute Students and CommunityMembers,Welcome to the Summer Semester 2022!Montgomery College has welcomed our new President,Dr. Jermaine Williams. When I was introduced to Dr.Williams, I could not resist the opportunity to mention theimportant relationship that the Lifelong Learning Instituteand our students have with the College, and how thatrelationship can grow in the future.The Summer Semester Schedule is filled with morethan 70 exciting courses. I just want to highlight four ofthese here. Two courses -- The Solar System: Planets,Comets, Meteorites and Missions, and UnderstandingClimate Change through NASA’s Earth Science Program-- are taught by NASA scientists. Another course, BuildYour Brain with Jeopardy, is presented by a Jeopardycontestant and aptitude test instructor, Professor NicolePorcaro. And we also are offering a highly effectivecourse in teaching memory enhancement techniques,Memory Academy: Train Your Brain to Retain.Every semester we bring courses that focus on theevents in our country and around the world. Thissemester the emphasis is on courses dedicated toUkraine, my home country, the country that courageouslyfights for its freedom and independence. ProfessorNaomi Daremblum will offer a course on historyand politics of Ukraine with the review of the currentsituation; additional courses will give students a taste ofunique and colorful culture of Ukraine and on traditionalUkrainian food. These courses are listed on page 20 inthe brochure. There is also a class on US politics, The2022 Off Year Election, in which Professor Cockrell willlead a non-partisan discussion on the contested races forthe House, Senate, and the Governorships.With reduction in COVID cases, the Montgomery Collegemade the use of masks optional in classrooms andpublic spaces.
