God has no beginning and no end Week 9PPDr. Beaker(Dr. Beaker exits, shaking his head.)PPSupplies Lab Glasses Lab Coat Handkerchief or small towelPPDisappearing PeanutsSupplies Styrofoam packing peanuts Cornstarch packing peanuts Water Glass jar(Sound of squirting water. Voice yelling“Watch out Dr. Beaker!” followed by“Sorry, Dr. Beaker.”)(Dr. Beaker enters, wiping his wet facewith a handkerchief or towel.)Pour both kinds of packing peanuts intothe jar. Pour enough water into the jar tocover the peanuts. Some peanuts(cornstarch) should start “melting.” Theother kind of peanuts (Styrofoam) willstay the same.I already took a shower this morning. But, no, I have to get another one in mylaboratory. Erlenmeyer decided to turnthe water up on my experiment and thehose came loose. It looked like a wildsnake spitting water, flying all over thelab. It would have almost been amusing ifit were not so annoying. When the water was poured over thepeanuts, what happened? Some of thepeanuts stayed the same and otherswent away. Things that are eternal willstay the same forever. They will nevergo away. Things that are not eternalwill eventually disappear.Often, I think that these lab assistants ofmine will forever cause havoc in my lab. There seems to be no end to their antics.Actually, this reminds me of myexperiment today. I am testing for thecharacteristic of eternal. What can you think of that is eternal? That is not eternal? My best scientific definition of eternal:Eternal means having no beginning orending.Moebius Strip: Two Sidedor One Sided?Yes, if something is eternal, it will lastforever. Which is exactly what I amafraid of when it comes to my labproblems. . . they will last forever!PPLab DemonstrationSupplies Two big strips of paper that are largeenough that all the children can seewhat you are doing Tape MarkerI had better go clean up all the waterbefore one of the assistants slips on thefloor. (Man yells and falls to floor in lab)Before the demonstration time, make aloop with one strip of paper and tape ittogether. With the other strip of paper, make a loop but before taping it together,Oh no, I am too late. I just hope there areno broken bones.2

Week 9 God has no beginning and no endturn one end 180 degrees and tape it.(This will be a half-turn.)Pick up the loop without the half-turn.How many sides does this have? (Letthe kids guess, if you get more than oneanswer, take a vote.)I need a volunteer. (Ask someone tocome up front and give them the marker.)I need you to take the marker and colorone side of the loop. (When the child isfinished, show the class.)So, one side is colored and one side isnot. How many sides does this loophave? (Two)Pick up the other loop. I need anothervolunteer. (Again, give the marker to theother volunteer when he gets to the frontof the room.)How many sides do you think this loophas? (Again, let the kids vote on howmany sides they think the loop has.)I want you to use the marker to make apath in the middle of the loop. Justcontinue to mark a line down themiddle of the loop until you come backto where you started. Can you find for me the side that youdid not mark? (Every part of the loophas a mark on it.) This loop only has oneside then. The first loop is like us. We have abody and a soul. Which part of us willlive forever? (Soul)God is like the second loop. He is aspirit. He will live forever. He does nothave a side or part of Him that will diesomeday.Destroyed BagSupplies Small zip-lock bag (be sure there areno holes in it) Baking soda Vinegar warm water Napkin or paper towelDo this activity on a big, covered surfaceor in a big container.Place about ¼ cup of warm water into thebag. Add ½ cup of vinegar to the bag.Place 3 teaspoons of baking soda into themiddle of the napkin. Fold the napkinaround the baking soda. Partially zip thebag closed, leaving room for the bakingsoda packet. Put the packet into the bagand quickly zip the bag completelyclosed. Place the bag on the ground or inthe container and stand back. The bagshould start to expand from the reaction ofthe baking soda and vinegar. It will pop, making a loud noise. Was that fun to watch the bag explode? The bag certainly did not last forever. The possessions we have here on earthare the same way. One day they will bedestroyed just like the bag. Have youever received a new toy for Christmasand then just a few weeks later, it wasalready broken? We need to be carefulthat we do not focus on our possessions, those things that will not last. Weshould be focusing on things that willlast, like our relationship with God.Blow Out The CandleSupplies Airzooka Tea lite candle Matches3

God has no beginning and no end Week 9 PencilLight the candle. Place the candle in yourhand and hold your arm out straight infront of you. Have an older child orassistant stand back about 10 feet awayfrom you and shoot a blast of air from theAirzooka toward the candle. The candleshould burn out. Continue to movefurther away from the candle, repeatingthe process. The children will be amazed!Let each child make a moebius strip fromthe instructions in the lab demonstration. When they have made the strip, have themtrace with a pencil a path down the middleof the strip.PPIn our experiment, the flame went outwhen it was hit by a big blast of air. Itobviously is not eternal. How many ofyou have ever heard of an eternalflame? Sometimes when people die, aflame is placed on their grave. Theflame never goes out. It represents thatthe person’s soul is eternal. It will liveon forever. If we have given our lives toJesus, our soul will live forever withHim.I Kings 2:1-42 Samuel 23: 107Review of Bible stories throughout theunitSupplies NoneDavid knew that God is eternal. Hewrote the following psalm praisingGod:LabExperimentsPPPPBible StoryExperiment 1 – Look Into InfinitySupplies Two square mirrors (you may use aglass mirror tile or plexi-mirror)Place the reflecting surfaces about a footapart facing each other on a flat surface.Look over the top of one mirror. Put afinger or other object between the mirrorsand look. All you have made will praise you, OLord; your saints will extol you. Theywill tell of the glory of your kingdomand speak of your might, so that allmen may know of your mighty acts andthe glorious splendor of your kingdom.Your kingdom is an everlastingkingdom, and your dominion enduresthrough all generations.Psalm 145:10-13King David had lived a long life. Heknew about the glory of God’skingdom. He certainly had manystories of God’s mighty acts. Herealized that God’s purpose endures. The mirrors seem to go on forever. They remind us of eternity. Ifsomething is eternal, it will last forever.Experiment 2 – Moebius Strip(During this review of David’s life, interact with the children in such a waythat they retell much of the story.)Supplies Strip of paper TapeWhen King David was a boy, what didhe do out in the fields? (He was ashepherd, taking care of his father’s4

Week 9 God has no beginning and no endsheep.) During that time David learnedwhat love was about. He loved hissheep, protecting them and caring fortheir needs. This love mirrored thekind of love that God had for him.David must have thought that thiswould be his life, loving and caring forthe sheep. However, God had another plan for hislife. One day, a man named Samuelvisited the family. God had sent himfor a reason. Does anyone rememberthat reason? (He was to anoint one ofJesse’s sons to be king one day.) Whichson did God choose to have Samuelanoint? (He anointed David with oil, giving him the promise that one dayDavid would be king.) God, who is allknowing, had decided that David wasthe kind of man who should be king oneday. He knew all about David andchose him.David continued to watch his father’ssheep and play the harp for King Saul.During this time he learned of the greatpower of God as he leaned on God’spower when he protected the sheep. What kind of animals did David killwhile he was protecting the sheep?(Bear, lion) Then, one day David’sfather sent him to visit his brothers.Where were the brothers? (On thebattle field) The brothers were in KingSaul’s army, fighting the Philistines. What giant was taunting the Israelites?(Goliath) What did God give David thepower to do? (To fight Goliath and killhim.) Because of God’s power, Davidwas able to defeat the enemy. This wasonly the beginning of a very differentlife for David. After David killed Goliath, he oftenfought in King Saul’s army. Doesanyone remember what happened afterDavid had fought in some of thebattles? (People were cheering for Davidmore than for King Saul.) King Saulbecame jealous of David and wanted tokill him. He tried many times, however, God kept protecting David.God had a plan for David’s life. He issovereign and what He had plannedwould eventually happen.Because of King Saul’s evil plans,David had to escape into the wilderness. While in hiding, he learned that Godwould always be present with him. There was nowhere that he could gothat God would not be. This included adark cave one day. David was facedwith a choice. Does anyone rememberthe choice he made in the cave?(Whether to kill King Saul or not. He didnot kill him.)Later David did become King, just asGod had planned. After some time asking, David committed a great sin. Didhe immediately repent of his sin? (No,he tried to cover it up by having someonekilled.) God is just and could not letDavid get by with this sin. Do youremember what happened? (God sentNathan to David to confront him about hissin.) Did David listen? (Yes, herepented of his sin.) God forgave Davidof his sin.Do you remember what King Davidwanted to bring back to Jerusalem?(Ark of the Covenant) David knew thatno one with unclean hands and heartcould come before God. God is holy.He is completely pure. David was soovercome with joy over this big event, that he did something that embarrassedhis wife. Do you remember what thatwas? (He danced wildly before the Arkof the Covenant in an act of worship.)His wife did not feel that is was fittingfor a king to act this way. David, however, did not care what it lookedlike. He only wanted to worship God.5

God has no beginning and no end Week 9Throughout David’s life, God wasalways faithful to David. God neverchanged. He always loved andprotected David. Do you rememberwho tried to take the throne away fromDavid? (His son, Absalom.) But Godwas faithful and protected David fromAbsalom’s plans. How was Davidsaved from Absalom’s plan?(Absalom’s head got stuck in a tree and hewas killed.)God had proven His faithfulness toDavid time and time again. God hadalways been with David and had givenDavid power to do what He called himto do. God had also called David to livea holy life. He had been just withDavid, yet forgiving his sin when Davidrepented. God had a plan for David’slife that was fulfilled. When David was old, he knew that histime was coming close to die.every part? Will He not bring tofruition my salvation and grant me myevery desire?” 2 Sam 23:5And so, David went to his eternal home. What is it that we learn from David’slife about God?PPPPPPPPBecause God is all knowing, we cannothide anything from Him.PPPPBecause God is all powerful, we shouldrely on Him to help us.PPPPBecause God is sovereign, we can trustHim with the plans for our lives.PPBecause God is always present, we willnever be alone.PPPPHe called his son, Solomon to him andsaid the following, “I am about to gothe way of all the earth. So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe whatthe Lord your God requires: Walk inHis ways, and keep His decrees andcommands, His laws and requirements,as written I the Law of Moses, so thatyou may prosper in all you do andwherever you go, and that the Lordmay keep His promise to me: ‘If yourdescendants watch how they live, and ifthey walk faithfully before Me with alltheir heart and soul, you will never failto have a man on the throne of Israel’.”We learn that because God is loving, weshould love others.PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPBecause God is just, we cannot get bywith sin.Because God is holy, we must live in away that pleases Him.Because God is unchanging, we canalways count on Him.Because God is eternal, we can havehope for the future.PrayerThank God that He has made aneternal home for us. Thank Him that Hemade a way for us to live with Himforever by sending His son, Jesus to dieon the cross for our sins. If you feel led, this would be a good time to present theplan of salvation for those children whohave not accepted Christ as their Savior.David knew that the Lord was aneternal God and that He would reign onHis throne forever. So, before KingDavid died, he wrote these words, “Isnot my house right with God? Has Henot made with me an everlastingcovenant, arranged and secured in6

Week 9 God has no beginning and no endObject Lesson/Modern Day StoryPPSupplies RockHow many of you have ever dropped arock like this into a pond or lake? What happened when you did it?Ripples occurred. They started small, just a circle around the rock. But, asthey went farther away from the rock, the ripples got bigger and bigger. Didthey go on forever? (No, the shorestopped them)Our lives are like this rock. The thingswe do or say cause a ripple effect.Something simple like smiling atsomeone and saying something kindcan cause a ripple. For instance, ifsomeone is having a tough time, yoursmile can make them feel better. Thatperson, in turn, will treat others nicerand it will continue.Other times it is something big likedeciding to follow Christ. When wemake that decision, it will make ripplesforever. We will influence people thatwill influence others people and thatwill keep going. When you grow upand have children, you will tell themabout Christ and they will tell theirchildren. The ripple effect of yourdecision will go on forever, all the wayto heaven.Think about your life. Are the ripplesthat your life make pleasing to God?Will they make a difference eternally?God is eternal and those of us whofollow Him will live with him for alleternity. So, we should be making adifference in people’s lives that willmake an eternal difference.7

David knew that God is eternal. He wrote the following psalm praising God: All you have made will praise you, O Lord; your saints will extol you. They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting
