Both wereinaugurated in Chicago; bothThe first Parliament (a namefor a gathering of leaders)took place in 1893 inconjunction with the World’sColumbian Exposition held inChicago. That event is nowconsidered the birth offormal interreligious dialogueworldwide. Sometimesreferred to as the interfaithmovement, it is a growingtrend among progressivereligionists who takepleasure in exploring thecommon elements that flowthrough traditional religionsand spiritual paths. That firstgathering in Chicagowitnessed high priests, swamis, tribal chiefs, andmany other religious leadersdiscovering that they all wereseeking a greaterunderstanding of the Divine. The Parliament wasresurrected for a centennialcelebration, becamestructured as a non-profitwith a board of diverseleaders, and again convenedin Chicago in 1993. Sincethen, Johannesburg, SouthAfrica; Barcelona, Spain; andMelbourne, Australia, havehosted the gathering aboutevery five years. This Octoberan estimated 10,000persons will attend theParliament, which will be

Therewere several Urantia-themedpresentations included in theMelbourne program, and theremay be more this year. At leastfive proposals have beensubmitted to the organizingcommittee. And again thisyear, as in Melbourne in 2009,Urantia Foundation, TheUrantia Book Fellowship, andUrantia AssociationInternational are cooperatingin efforts to support aninformation booth featuringUrantia Books, educationalmaterials, and, of course, friendly volunteers to interactwith interested seekers. The event runs from October15 to 19 and will includespeeches by well-known andrespected religious leaders, hundreds of spiritually themedworkshops and presentations, and stage performancesrepresenting the music andartistry of a diversity ofreligious cultures. Alsofeatured is the expo hall whereone may find informationbooths about every religionand spiritual path under thesun. Our booth, simply namedThe Urantia Book, will belocated very near theentrance, which should affordgreat visibility and theopportunity to introduce thebook and its teachings to lotsof active religionists. My personal experience at theParliament in Melbourneremains a highlight of myreligious journey. Thecombination of camaraderiewith my Urantia Book readerfriends, the pageantry of thenightly performances, thethought-provoking speechesand workshops, and theexhilaration of mingling with somany people of such diversereligious backgrounds, werememorable and soul-enriching.To find out more about themission of the Parliament ofthe World’s Religions, you canvisit their website:www.parliamentofreligions.org.If you are interested inattending the Parliament thisfall, it would be wise to registernow as the fee will increase atthe end of March. Improvements to theUrantia Foundation WebsiteThe board approved updatingthe “look” of UrantiaFoundation’s website. Thenew look makes it easier forinternational visitors tonavigate the site. The boardThe board agreed with arequest to sponsor UrantiaAssociation International’sconference in Québec,Canada, this summer. It ispart of the board’s philosophyto work with otherorganizations dedicated tospreading the teachings ofThe Urantia Book worldwide.books becomes part of theFoundation’s institutionalmemory. With this in mind,Georges Michelson-Dupontpresented the first writtenroad map that details theprocess intervening betweena completed translation and afinished book. With this draftin hand, the Translation andBook Committees will proceedto finalize the systems.Urantia Foundation hasentered a new stage of itsexistence. When Dr. Sadler3. Preparation of Systems andProcesses for QualityPublicationsAs Urantia Foundationmatures, it is vital that theknowledge of how to translatethe book and to print qualityand the early team readiedThe Urantia Book for printing, they knew every aspect of itsproduction. Back then, thebook was available only inEnglish and was sold mainlyin North America. Today thereare sixteen translationsdistributed in over 35countries. The book is nowavailable in physical-bookform and in digital format. These changes have requiredthat we evolve from an earlystage organization to a moremature organization that isbuilt to last for generations.Employing procedures andsystems, like the onesdescribed above, ensures thata lucid and comprehensivelegacy is left for those whofollow us.4. Going forward, new associate trustees will beelected for a three-year termwith a possibility of serving anadditional three-year term (sixyears in total). This changeallows for better planning, both for the elected associatetrustees and for the trustees. The board also approved thepossible appointment of anassociate trustee emeritus ifinvolved in a project thatrequires additional time tostay on the expanded board.Associate trustees emeritimay also serve on boardcommittees while working onspecific projects assignedthem by the board.6. Once again I witnessedand experienced what thefruits of long-term exposure tospiritual guidance look like. Itwas a pleasure to feel thelove from all the teammembers. It was as thoughwe experienced a preview ofthe age of light and life. I feltthe presence of the Masterand was reminded that“where two or three believersare gathered together, theream I in the midst of them.”(1762.5) 159:1.3Our interactions with thevisitors at our booth were veryinteresting. We had a big bowlof Spiritual Vitamins, whichproved to be great icebreakers. One elderlygentleman even took ahandful and was about to tossthem into his mouth, when westopped him. How hungry hewas for the divine word! When people stopped at ourbooth, often their firstquestion was: “What is this?”or “What is Urantia?” Then itwas incumbent upon us torespond with somethingengaging that would elicitmore questions from thevisitor.Because the Hebrewtranslation is still a work-inprogress, we prepared abrochure in English andHebrew titled “Introduction toThe Urantia Book.” Thisbrochure proved to be apopular handout. In it, we hada short introduction andabout a hundred quotes fromthe book. Everyone whovisited the booth was givenone of these brochures, which, after being read, frequently induced the visitorsto engage in conversationTim Hobbs, Gabriel Rymberg, Claire Thurston, Buck Weimer, and Avi Dogim

Shipping is donethrough Nova Poshta (NewMail) commercial deliveryThere are many smallbookstores in Ukraine thatusually work directly withpublishers of books.Unfortunately, putting TheUrantia Book on the shelvesof these kinds of stores is verydifficult because The UrantiaBook was not published inUkraine. The book is notpromoted by major publishinghouses. So it cannot be foundby buyers for smallbookstores; it is neither in thedirectory of books nor in thecatalogues of publishingcompanies. Some of these shops arewilling, however, to take abook on consignment. Usually, these are small shops thatsell mostly esoteric books. Wehave given several books toone of these bookstores inKiev. The disadvantages of thismethod of book placementare: 1) They always mark upthe price of the book by 100%,and 2) you have to workindividually with these shops. Then you must call the storesand monitor the sales. It isinconvenient and timeconsuming. It is the same with bookbazaars. In Kiev there is avery large book bazaar calledPetrivka where you can findany book. Book sellers sellThe Urantia Book there, marking up the price of thebook by 100%.We signed a contract for thesale of books through onepopular Internet book store:yakaboo at new.yakaboo.ua/kniga-urantii.html.In three months this shop hassold only one book.In Ukraine there are twomajor bookstore chains thatcarry books: Book Clubwww.bookclub.ua and Bukvabukvashops.com.ua. BookClub sells through the postalservice and we were eager tohave The Urantia Book intheir catalog because it wouldhave offered us a wideaudience of people who loveto read. Unfortunately theydenied us a place in theirmailing directory.Stores in the Bukva chain areusually located in shoppingmalls or in a central area ofthe city. In Ukraine we have

6Urantia Foundation's News Onlinethirty-nine such stores. In thesummer of 2014, we decidedto put the books into theBukva chain. In order to havethe Bukva chain carry thebook, one must have a formalcontract with the company. InDecember 2014, I, as a legalentity (an entrepreneur)signed a contract and themarketing manager proposedthat we choose the“presentation” of the book. For example, the book can beplaced on special promotionalpedestals near the cashier.Signs advertising the bookcan be placed near the booksin the storefront. A specialpromotional audio clip can beplayed with some frequencyin the store. All of theseservices cost money. Wechose to place The UrantiaBook in the Bukva stores inKiev. The cost of this advertisingcampaign for two months was4,100 hryvnia. At theexchange rate at thebeginning of February 2015,this was about 245 USD; asof today it was 190 USD.We placed three books ineach of the stores. Theymarked up the price of thebook by 100%, which wenegotiated down to 50% bydiscounting the cost of thebooks to Chitay Misto by 33%.Fortunately Chitay Misto isselling the book at the sameprice for which we sell it onour website.I am confident that we should use all modern marketing toolsavailable to us in trying to distribute The Urantia Book. As is statedin the book in the parable of the shrewd steward:“If you were sodiligent in makinggains for yourselveswhen in the serviceof self, why shouldyou show lessdiligence in gainingsouls for thekingdom since youare now servants ofthe brotherhood ofman and stewardsof God?” (1853.5)169:2.2W H AT T H E U R A N T I A B O O K M E A N S T O M E ?book, and begin to read, mymind becomes like water, which fills and flows throughthe channel―cascading, pooling, veering, holding, narrowing, or broadening inan ever-flowing stream ofconcepts.Books are also like a windowframe, allowing the reader togaze upon a new anddifferent landscape. Anacquaintance recently said tome that “books are liberty.”By Devon Landis,Pennsylvania, United StatesIn my moments of highestappreciation of heavenlythings, The Urantia Book isliterally the written words of aDivine Counselor, anArchangel, or a BrilliantEvening Star of Nebadon. Inother moments, my UrantiaBook is used as a makeshiftpillow when I am traveling. To me, written words are likea dry canal dug through theland. When I take a book, anyThe Urantia Book is myfavorite book. It begins likethis:“In the minds of themortals of Urantia—thatbeing the name of yourworld—there exists greatconfusion respecting themeaning of such termsas God, divinity, anddeity. Human beings arestill more confused anduncertain about therelationship of the divinepersonalities designatedby these numerousappellations.” (1.1) 0:0.1The Divine Counselor goes onto say:“Because of thisconceptual povertyassociated with so muchideational confusion, Ihave been directed toformulate thisintroductory statement inexplanation of themeanings which shouldbe attached to certainword symbols as theymay be hereinafter usedin those papers whichthe Orvonton corps oftruth revealers havebeen authorized totranslate into the Englishlanguage ofUrantia.” (1.1) 0:0.1These Orvontonian authors, the Divine Counselors, attempt to transport thehuman mind over eons oftime and acrossunfathomable tracts of spaceall the way to Paradise, thedwelling place of God. Fromthere, it flows back to theshores of the place of thephysical person, the humblehome world which we call“Urantia,” the place where weput into action the doing ofthe will of God.I have read The Urantia Bookonce from cover to cover, andI am confident that some ofmy thoughts traversed thatimmense time-space gapbetween Paradise and me,and that I am immeasurablybetter for it.Right now my literaryendeavor is focused onreading the Catholic Biblefrom cover to cover (I amcurrently in the book ofKings). I am also active invarious Facebook groupsincluding Urantia BookScience, Urantia BookPhilosophy, and Urantia Bookand History. Someday I willreread The Urantia Book frombeginning to end and will digdeeper the intellectual andspiritual channel betweenGod and man.

I was in myearly twenties, pursuing mycarefree career of surfing onLong Island, New York, whena few of us flew to PuertoRico to find waves. We foundthem at an unknown, butnow famous, coastal towncalled Rincón.Several of the group decidedto fly over to Barbados uponhearing about a storm there, which meant good waves. However, they found washedout conditions. Seekingsomething to do, theydescended into one ofBarbados's caves with aboom box and the new LedZeppelin album. Afterentering the pitch blacknessof the cave, they played thetape to the end and sat insilence, when a strange voicebroke in, talking aboutseventh heaven, Jesus, andother such topics. When theyleft, from out of the cavecame a man in his fiftiesdressed in a long poncho. Hesaid, in reply to theirquestions: “When you getback to the States, look upThe Urantia Book.”none had it or had heard of it.There was, however, abookstore I knew of inSayville, Long Island. Ihope that my attempts tointroduce people to the booklead them to the narrow road. For me it’s brought acalmness that I never hadbefore.
