An introduction to SuperMeditationExplore meditationin its ultimate form:SuperMeditation. It is based on the highest revelatorytruths of the modern age.SuperMeditation links our day-today life with spirit influences. It is not a quick and easy method. Itworks in a natural way over time.It seeks to balance all attributes, powers and components of ourbeing. There is no set method or sequencefor the study of these modules. They need to be studied and appliedin practical life circumstances.SuperMeditation is the connectionof material reality and our spiritualnature through the thinkingmechanism we call mind. ByiiSuperMeditation Introductionattempting this liaison we developour ability to more effectively facethe demands of living. We can also come to know therealm of our superconsciousnesswhere we engage in profoundthinking and personal communionwith our Creator. The result isthe development of our spiritualawareness, capacity, and receptivity. This approach to meditation seeksthe highest ideals, divine goals, and worthy insights. It is free fromthe constraints of authoritativereligions, mysticism, rituals, andhabitual formulas. It is multifaceted: thoughtfulproblem solving, making contactwith our indwelling spirit, engagingin worship, becoming serviceorientated, all separate yearningsand yet they all interrelate. Somuch for the old style of passivelydoing nothing but chanting amantra, focusing on an object, orfutilely trying to empty the mind. The supreme desire for truth, coupled with the highest values, ensures this practice of searchingfor God within us is the mostnatural, safest, and worthwhileendeavor. It is even our duty.Is it effective? Does it work? Is itthe way to a better life? Discoverfor yourself. Live it. It is an excitingadventure that lasts a lifetime. It is your unique and personaljourney.

SuperMeditation is based onthe Urantia PapersAdapted from Urantia Foundation web siteThe Urantia Papers describe allhuman beings as belongingto one family, the daughtersand sons of one God, the UniversalFather.thinking of all peoples; they havethe potential to make the world abetter place. The Papers introduce us to newconcepts about our ever-ascendingadventure of knowing and findingGod in our friendly and carefullyadministered universe. For over fifty years, people fromaround the world have discoveredthat the teachings have profoundlyimpressed and changed their lives– inspired and stimulated them toreach new levels of spiritual growthand enhanced living. The writings offer a clear and conciseintegration of science, philosophy, and religion. They have the capacityto make a significant contributionto the religious and philosophicalThe Urantia Papers do not advocatea new and organized religion. Theirviewpoint builds upon the religiousheritages of the past and present, encouraging a living religion basedon service to one’s fellows, and faithin a personal relationship with aloving God.It is the basis for developing auniversal philosophy of living, byliving in harmony with each otherand desiring to do the will of God.We encourage you to considerits unifying truths that explainlife itself. Thankfully we can nowexplore the concepts on which allother meditations, philosophies andreligions are based.SuperMeditationiii

SuperMeditationA NEW DEFINITION OF MEDITATIONNew terminology is requiredThose who wish to converse aboutmeditation need to be bold inthought and word. And so to action. It requires the usage of key words:spirit, worship, consciousness levels, truth, our spiritual nature, selfawareness, religious associations, prayer, mind. And we might as well includehigher forces in there, alongwith other majestic ideas ofbrotherhood, survival, faith, guidance, ethics, decision making The spirit of religion is eternal, butthe form of its expression must berestated every time the dictionary ofhuman language is revised. [1087.3]Relevant definitions ofmeditationThere is anecdotal evidence thatsuggests a second edition of aWebster’s Dictionary, currentduring the time of the sponsoringof the Papers, was the benchmarkauthority for the definition ofwords used by the revelators. The1934 second edition of Webster’sNew International Dictionarydefines meditation as:. the act of meditating, thought, especially close or continuedthought, serious contemplation. Aform of private devotion or spiritualexercise consisting in deep continuedreflection on some religious theme. There is no reference to a passivemental state, the focus on asingle object, or an altered stateof consciousness. In fact, theuse of the word in The UrantiaBook corresponds with the abovedefinition: the act of thinking.Meditation is thrilling, it is thinkingin action, solution directed andinsight focused, it is dynamic.Consider this excerpt from theUrantia Papers:This new gospel of the kingdomrenders a great service to the art ofliving in that it supplies a new andricher incentive for higher living. Itpresents a new and exalted goal ofdestiny, a supreme life purpose. Andthese new concepts of the eternaland divine goal of existence are inthemselves transcendent stimuli, calling forth the reaction of the verybest that is resident in man’s highernature. On every mountaintop ofintellectual thought are to be foundrelaxation for the mind, strengthfor the soul, and communionfor the spirit. From such vantagepoints of high living, man is able totranscend the material irritationsof the lower levels of thinking worry, jealousy, envy, revenge, andthe pride of immature personality. These high-climbing souls deliverthemselves from a multitude of thecrosscurrent conflicts of the trifles ofliving, thus becoming free to attainconsciousness of the higher currentsof spirit concept and celestialcommunication. [1778.3]Living truth is dynamic and canenjoy only an experiential existencein the human mind. [1949.4]The spirit can dominate mind; somind can control energy. [1222.3]Following the above reasoning andthe defining quotations from TheUrantia Book, we present this newdefinition about meditation:THE DEFINITION OF SUPERMEDITATIONMeditation in the superconsciousThe practice of meditation can generate an inner sense of supreme relaxation and spiritual receptivity. Our higher self finds expression when mind is free to explore and enter new associations with spiritrealities. Fully dedicated thought streams of mind reach upward to connect with the presence of guidingspirit forces. This unification of the mind with spiritual realms is conducive to an awareness of ourspiritual nature, a personal faith experience, and a desire to live the divine will. We are able to transcendthe mortal subconscious and conscious levels, and approach an exalted, active and enduring connectionwith our superconsciousness.ivSuperMeditation

SuperMeditationSection 1. The Universal FrameworkCOURSE 1PART 1Levels of ConsciousnessRelaxation for body and mindWe all experiencedifferent states of mindevery day. How weutilize the various states of mindto deal with life events is what’simportant. The creative state of mind is themost intriguing for there we canexperience being ‘in the zone’,a connectedness difficult toreplicate or explain. Being at one, most natural, most real, are otherways to express this state. We use various forms ofmeditation to relax, gain arelatively peaceful state of mind,be spiritual, think clearly, orfocus our attention. And we canfunction in a natural way to do allthat. So what are the various levels ofmind that we can work through? We can function at subconscious, conscious, and superconsciouslevels. Can we work through theselevels with meditation in order toexpand our cosmic consciousnessand enhance our spiritualperceptions?Gateway to the Superconscious(this takes us beyond theconscious level)SubconsciousRandom thinking, daydreaming, emotive behavior, innate reflexactivity, habits, heightened senses, reactions, psychic phenomena.Conscious (the level forconnection for most meditations)Mindfulness meditation. Momentto moment thinking. (This is usedin Western countries, claiming toassist psychological and mentalhealth.)Thinking about facts (logical andlateral thinking). Basic reflectionabout life and events (archiving ofinformation).Problem solving at various mentallevels (deliberation, solutionbased). To engage in devotionalcontemplation, especially prayer. To think or reflect, especially ina calm and deliberate manner.Prayer to a higher realm forothers. Thinking about thewelfare of others (compassion, forgiveness). Taking in spiritualpower in a natural setting. Alterego (talking to an imaginaryfriend or higher self). Alteredmental state (only if seeking thepresence of God).SuperconsciousSpiritual meditationThanksgivingExperiencing a spiritual stateWorship of the CreatorImagination for a better day / life(populist and mostly ego driven).Thinking and decisions based onGod’s will or the will of God. Faith.Calm or empty the mind, oftenby achieving an altered stateof mind. (This is Buddhism &Hinduism related.) Can we reallyempty the mind?Dynamic and active expressionof selfConcentration on a particularobject or writing, sometimesusing a mantra. Focus of mind. This can limit the awareness ofjust being. Here is another way to look at thedifferent forms of consciousnessoutlined above. Is there asequence to the attainmentof the superconscious state?Loving service to othersPART 2SuperMeditation Section 1. The Universal Framework1

This may vary depending on thefeelings of the moment. Also itsuggests that we may get to onestage and get no further.Or can we develop a somewhatautomatous way to enter thisrealm? Could the consciousnessof living with a spiritual outlookallow a natural and spontaneousentry to a higher state of mind? And can such mindfulnessbecome our main way of thinking?States of consciousness andprogressive transitions:In the momentRelationships with others(maxing life experience). Hobby, recreation, reading, sport. Thecreative state. Relaxation forbody and mind (mindfulnessmeditation). Spontaneity torespond to the moment. In the mindSubconscious randomthinking (daydreaming). Basicreflection about life and events(archiving). Focused consciousthinking about facts (factualmeditation). Problem solvingat various mental levels(solutions).Reaching outThinking about the welfare ofothers (compassion, service). Astate of self forgetfulness (theworld fades away). Prayer to ahigher realm (raised consciousstate). Striving to makedecisions based on the will ofGod.Reaching upState of knowing.Understanding leadingto Wisdom. Experiencing2a spiritual state.Superconsciousness. Receptivityof influences outside of self.Living a values-based life.Just be itAwareness of the presence of aCreator.Worship of the Creator.A feeling of love that pervadesthe entire being.Know the fact of ‘I am’.COURSE 2Understanding MeditationMeditation in The Urantia Bookrefers to deep and concentratedthinking to find solutions in thesuperconscious. At that level themind taps into the realm of spiritwhich is an unerring guide todecisions of the highest value toour eternal career.Other than that, the revelationgives no clear explanation ofthe practice of mediation. Thereis good reason for that. Firstly, meditation by the mind offersa variety of ways to communewith spirit forces at work in theuniverse, and secondly there is noprescriptive explanation of anymethodology given in the book.We can meditate on an object, wecan meditate on God. And each ofus will have our own way of doingso. The Urantia Book does explainhow we can cooperate witha myriad of spirit influences. However the context is notmeditation in and of itselfbut about working in theSuperMeditation Section 1. The Universal Frameworksuperconscious state of mind, partof which includes a meditativeprocess. This course of study exploresthose many ways the mindcan act as the intermediarybetween the material and thespiritual. However, only anoverall framework is presented.A complete reading (and even rereading) of the entire revelation isrecommended. And we are led tobelieve that such a detailed studyand whole of life application isonly the beginning of an eternaljourney.Meditation can refer tothinking:Imagine our joy one day - thetwins were about ten years old when the spirit of worship madeits first contact with the mindof the female twin and shortlythereafter with the male. We knewthat something closely akin tohuman mind was approachingculmination; and when, about ayear later, they finally resolved, asa result of meditative thought andpurposeful decision, to flee fromhome and journey north, thendid the spirit of wisdom begin tofunction on Urantia and in thesetwo now recognized human minds.[709.6]Meditative thinking is differentto experiential thinking:When the worship urge isadmonished and directedby wisdom - meditative andexperiential thinking - it thenbegins to develop into thephenomenon of real religion. Whenthe seventh adjutant spirit, thespirit of wisdom, achieves effectiveministration, then in worship man

begins to turn away from natureand natural objects to the God ofnature and to the eternal Creatorof all things natural. [948.8]We wisely decide only frommeditating in the presence ofGod:Man can never wisely decidetemporal issues or transcend theselfishness of personal interestsunless he meditates in the presenceof the sovereignty of God andreckons with the realities of divinemeanings and spiritual values.[1093.2]Meditation is different tocontemplation:At the end of this eleventhyear Jesus was a vigorous, welldeveloped, moderately humorous, and fairly lighthearted youth, butfrom this year on he was more andmore given to peculiar seasons ofprofound meditation and seriouscontemplation. [1371.3]Meditation is different topraying:When this, his second day in thetemple, was finished, again hewent to Bethany for the night. Andagain he went out in the garden tomeditate and pray. It was apparentthat his mind was concerned withthe contemplation of weightyproblems. [1382.2]Again, meditation isdifferentiated from praying:Meditating is quiet, and againrefers to thinking:This is the calendar year of hisfourteenth birthday. He hadbecome a good yoke maker andworked well with both canvasand leather. He was also rapidlydeveloping into an expertcarpenter and cabinetmaker. Thissummer he made frequent trips tothe top of the hill to the northwestof Nazareth for prayer andmeditation. [1387.1]He now clearly and fullycomprehended all these far-flungrelationships, and he desired tobe away for a season of quietmeditation so that he could thinkout the plans and decide upon theprocedures for the prosecution ofhis public labors in behalf of thisworld and for all other worlds inhis local universe. [1530.0]True meditation is a seriousmatter:As he grew up to manhood, hepassed through all those conflictsand confusions which the averageyoung persons of previous andsubsequent ages have undergone. And the rigorous experience ofsupporting his family was a suresafeguard against his havingovermuch time for idle meditationor the indulgence of mystictendencies. [1393.6]Meditation on God is equatedto union with God:“God is our Father, the earth ourmother, and the universe ourbirthplace. Without God the soulis a prisoner; to know God releasesthe soul. By meditation on God,by union with him, there comesdeliverance from the illusions ofevil and ultimate salvation from allmaterial fetters.” [1449.2]A season of meditationindicates an extendedperiod of time. And throughmeditation the mind candominate intellect:The results of this momentousseason of meditationdemonstrated conclusively that thedivine mind has triumphantly andspiritually dominated the humanintellect. [1540.5]Prayer and worship aredifferent to communion withGod:Subsequent to the baptism of Jesusand the forty days in the Pereanhills, it is hardly proper to speakof these seasons of communionwith his Father as prayer, nor isit consistent to speak of Jesus asworshiping, but it is altogethercorrect to allude to these seasonsas personal communion with hisFather. [1618.2]SuperMeditation Section 1. The Universal Framework3

Worship is combined withmeditation for a dual effect:But the greatest of all methodsof problem solving I have learnedfrom Jesus, your Master. I referto that which he so consistentlypractices, and which he has sofaithfully taught you, the isolationof worshipful meditation. Inthis habit of Jesus’ going off sofrequently by himself to communewith the Father in heaven is to befound the technique, not only ofgathering strength and wisdomfor the ordinary conflicts of living, but also of appropriating theenergy for the solution of thehigher problems of a moral andspiritual nature. [1774.2]Meditation needs to berelaxed to lead to worship, spiritual communion:The secret of all this problemis wrapped up in spiritualcommunion, in worship. Fromthe human standpoint it is aquestion of combined meditationand relaxation. Meditationmakes the contact of mind withspirit; relaxation determines thecapacity for spiritual receptivity.[1777.2]Silently meditating upon asingle thought:As this group journeyed downMount Olivet, Jesus led the way,the apostles following closelybehind in meditative silence. Therewas just one thought uppermostin the minds of all save JudasIscariot, and that was: What willthe Master do today? [1888.2]Meditating upon events aboutto unfold:At last Jesus spoke: “I desire thatyou rest today. Take time tothink over all that has happened4create real values; humanexperience does not yield universeinsight. Concerning insight, therecognition of moral values andthe discernment of spiritualmeanings, all that the humanmind can do is to discover, recognize, interpret, and choose.since we came to Jerusalem andmeditate on what is just ahead,of which I have plainly told you.Make sure that the truth abides inyour lives, and that you daily growin grace.” [1920.1]Meditation is different toreflection:Let experience teach you the valueof meditation and the power ofintelligent reflection. [2047.6]Meditation detached fromliving is not necessary:It was not necessary for theapostles to go apart to a lonelyplace for years of solitarymeditation in order to receivethe spirit. For all time, Pentecostdisassociates the idea of spiritualexperience from the notion ofespecially favorable environments.[2064.2]Meditation is different todevotion. One is qualifiedas spiritual, the other asreligious:One of the great troubles withmodern life is that man thinkshe is too busy to find time forspiritual meditation and religiousdevotion. [2077.3]Meditation is ultimatelysubject to mind:The human mind does notSuperMeditation Section 1. The Universal Framework[2094.9]

By knowing them we canhave an awareness of them, havesome understanding of them, andbe on alert to avoid unfavorableinfluences. They are consideredunder the following headings: Fear Sacred Books The Claimed Authority ofIntermediaries Ritual Magic Superstition Providence Luck and ChanceFEAREvolutionary religionis born of a simpleand all-powerful fear, the fear which surgesthrough the humanmind when confrontedwith the unknown, the inexplicable, andthe incomprehensible.Religion eventuallyachieves the profoundlysimple realization of anall-powerful love, the lovewhich sweeps irresistibly6SuperMeditation Section 1. The Universal Frameworkthrough the human soul whenawakened to the conception of thelimitless affection of the UniversalFather for the sons of the universe.[986.3]Since this inner life of man istruly creative, there rests uponeach person the responsibilityof choosing as to whether thiscreativity shall be spontaneous andwholly haphazard or controlled, directed, and constructive. Howcan a creative imagination produceworthy children when the stagewhereon it functions is alreadypreoccupied by prejudice, hate, fears, resentments, revenge, andbigotries? [1220.8]The philosophic elimination ofreligious fear and the steadyprogress of science add greatlyto the mortality of false gods;and even though these casualtiesof man-made deities maymomentarily befog the spiritualvision, they eventually destroy thatignorance and superstition whichso long obscured the living God ofeternal love. [1124.3]SACRED BOOKS [969.4 - 6]Words eventually became fetishes, more especially those which wereregarded as God’s words; in thisway the sacred books of manyreligions have become fetishisticprisons incarcerating the spiritualimagination of man.In olden times the fetish wordof authority was a fear-inspiringdoctrine, the most terrible of alltyrants which enslave men. Adoctrinal fetish will lead mortalman to betray himself into theclutches of bigotry, fanaticism, superstition, intolerance, andthe most atrocious of barbarous

cruelties. Modern respect forwisdom and truth is but therecent escape from the fetishmaking tendency up to the higherlevels of thinking and reasoning.Concerning the accumulatedfetish writings which variousreligionists hold as sacred books,it is not only believed that whatis in the book is true, but alsothat every truth is contained inthe book. If one of these sacredbooks happens to speak of theearth as being flat, then, for longgenerations, otherwise sane menand women will refuse to acceptpositive evidence that the planetis round. The practice of opening one ofthese sacred books to let theeye chance upon a passage, thefollowing of which may determineimportant life decisions orprojects, is nothing more nor lessthan arrant fetishism. To takean oath on a “holy book” or toswear by some object of supremeveneration is a form of refinedfetishism.THE CLAIMED AUTHORITY OFINTERMEDIARIES [986.1 – 2]The evolution of religiousobservances progressedfrom placation, avoidance, exorcism, coercion, conciliation, and propitiation to sacrifice, atonement, and redemption. The technique of religious ritualpassed from the forms of theprimitive cult through fetishes tomagic and miracles; and as ritualbecame more complex in responseto man’s increasingly complexconcept of the supermaterialrealms, it was inevitablydominated by medicine men, shamans, and priests. In the advancing concepts ofprimitive man the spirit worldwas eventually regarded as beingunresponsive to the ordinarymortal. Only the exceptionalamong humans could catchthe ear of the gods; only theextraordinary man or womanwould be heard by the spirits.Religion thus enters upon a newphase, a stage wherein it graduallybecomes secondhanded; alwaysdoes a medicine man, a shaman,or a priest intervene betweenthe religionist and the object ofworship. And today most Urantiasystems of organized religiousbelief are passing through thislevel of evolutionary development.RITUAL [992.3 – 7]Ritual is the technique ofsanctifying custom; ritual createsand perpetuates myths as well ascontributing to the preservationof social and religious customs.Again, ritual itself has beenfathered by myths.
