Construction Specifications InstituteMasterFormat BackgroundzzzzzzThe Construction Specifications Institute(CSI) is a professional organization whosepurpose is to promote better organization andcommunication of construction projectinformation.MasterFormat is a trademark of CSI.MasterFormat is a list of numbers and titlesfor organizing information aboutconstruction requirements, products, andactivities into a standard sequence.Current MasterFormat edition is the 2004edition.MasterFormat organizes products andinformation into 5 groups and 33 majordivisions (Level 1 titles).Sixteen division format was first introducedin 1963 and was expanded to 49 (16 forfuture use) in the 2004 edition.
