ODA TodayODATODAYEXECUTIVEDIRECTOR’SMESSAGEBy: Dana DavisThis is the third installment in my series on ODA and itsPartners in Dentistry. Previously I highlighted the Oklahoma DentalFoundation and DENPAC, and now this message will focus onthe Oklahoma Dental Association Services Company (ODASCO),which is the ODA’s youngest Partner.ODASCO, Inc. was formed in April of 2001. The ODA Houseof Delegates approved a resolution to form a wholly-owned, forprofit subsidiary, and to use reserve funds to capitalize ODASCOin exchange for stock – with the ODA being the sole stockholder.ODASCO exclusively represents the ODA in developing businessrelationships with vendors for products and services available to theODA and its members.ODASCO is governed by a Board composed of five ODAmembers who are elected by the ODA Board of Trustees. Inaddition, the ODA President, the Chair of the ODA Council onMembership and Membership Services, and the ODA ExecutiveDirector also serve as ex officio members of the ODASCO Board.ODASCO has two masters to serve. It must serve the ODAmembership by identifying new products and services for the dentistand the dental office, to be offered exclusively to ODA members atdiscounted rates. And it must also answer to the ODA – as its solestockholder – by providing annual dividends and other services tothe ODA. Unlike many of the companies on Wall Street, ODASCOhas paid very generous dividends to the ODA; payments in 2003and 2004 equaled 25,000. These dividends help support theODA operating budget and help to keep dues stable. In addition,ODASCO shares staff and operational costs with the ODA. Basedon a cumulative review of dividends and services, ODASCO hascontributed over 130,000 to the ODA. This is an equivalent of 112per ODA member in 2004.Currently, ODASCO endorses 21 vendors who offer productsfrom liability insurance to credit cards. The ODASCO advertisementon the following page lists all of the endorsed vendors. The moreODA members who use these vendors, the more benefits for bothODA and its members will be accrued. The ODASCO Board works hard on your behalf and devoteslarge amounts of time in the process. For instance, the recentrenegotiation of the MBNA contract took over one hundredvolunteer hours. We all owe ODASCO a word of thanks and weshould all remember to use the endorsed products and services. 4 ODA JOURNAL March 2005D E N TA LORGANIZATIONNEWSTULSA COUNTY (TCDS)By: Jeff Parker, DDS, TCDS EditorWOW – When Dr. Gordon Christensen came to Tulsa onJanuary 7th, around 650 dentists and their dental teams came fromfive different states to hear his very informative program! Dr. Steven Hoggprovided the care for Stacey.Stacey is thrilled with her new dentures. “They look great,” she says.Stacey says the dentures look just like her original teeth. Stacey’s 14year-old daughter Alyssa also thinks her mother’s new smile is gorgeous.Stacey, who has relied on a wheelchair for transportation for the pastyear, has a fully-equipped van with lift for the wheelchair. Unfortunately, the van has recently given out, with the transmission being a major problem.
