One of the more popularsports today is target shooting.Since these facts are true the rightto own guns will be a source of contraversy unt:l the end of time.Proper Plan NecessaryBecause organizations like the National Rifle Association and all typesof hunting and fishing clubs will go allout to defeat any restrictive legislationon the possession of guns it might behoove law enforecement to seek lawswhich would make the use of a gun inany crime cotcrminus with a long andmandatory prison sentence.Such laws would satisfy legitimategun lovers and punish illegitimate gunusers.Restrictions Inadequatevolvement of a deadly weapon areworkable but the use of firearms inany crime (even down to displayingthem in a threatening manner) shouldcarry a much more severe penalty.Separate OffenseHeavy prison sentences which aresure and swift would curtail the use ofguns by criminals, regardless of the circumstances of the original offence. Inother words use of a gun for any illegal purpose would put a man in jailbecause it would represent a separateoffense.By lobbying for such laws, the members of the law enforcement profession could make a substantial contribution to the community as well as totheir chosen field."JVieboldt's"Memorial ChapelsAs it now stands people who wishto buy guns for proper purposes havesome difficulty, such as registering anda cooling-off period.
