Frequently Asked QuestionsHow do I apply to the Nursing Program at APU?APU accepts applications to the Bachelors of Science Health Sciences (concentration: Pre-Nursing) yearround. Those interested must submit the online application for admission atwww.alaskapacific.edu/apply. Click the green “Apply” link next to Pre-Nursing, and then click “CreateYour Account” to begin the application process.In order to apply to the ADN program, a student must already be an APU student in the Pre-Nursingconcentration. Admission to and completion of Pre-Nursing coursework does not guarantee admissionto the ADN program.How much is tuition?Tuition is 20,350 per year for enrollment in 12-18 credits per semester. Refer to the APU Catalog foradditional information: d 14&navoid 388Are there additional fees associated with the program?Yes. The Associate Degree in Nursing has a mandatory program fee of 3160, not including in theuniversity “Mandatory Fees ( 510.00)”, for identity verification, supplies, and the ATI (AssessmentTechnology Institute) nursing education platform. The fee is split over the three semesters ( 1520.00, 820.00, 820.00 respectively) and charged as a non-refundable lab fee in three relevant courses. Theprogram fee is subject to modification, and may be changed more than once if courses are repeatedand/or program completion requires additional semesters.What if I decide I don’t want to stay in Nursing?If you decide that pursuing the Associate Degree in Nursing is not a good fit, you may pursue anotherConcentration within the BS in Health Sciences program or another academic program at APU. APU is a candidate foraccreditation with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).When will the ADN program be accredited/can I get my license without the ADN being accredited?ACEN does not review programs until they are fully up and running, as they can’t perform a site visitwithout a program present. The current site visit date is planned for Fall of 2021, with an accreditationdecision made in Spring 2022. What is the process for applying to the ADN program from Pre-Nursing?Students will internally apply for the ADN program through submitting a résumé; your overall academicperformance and pre-requisite grades will also be evaluated. The application opens on January 3rd and closes onMarch 6thAfter reviewing completed applications, the Nursing faculty will call back a group of students after SpringBreak to attend an interview with the Nursing faculty. Provided the student candidate passes theinterview,they will be accepted into the program and the Admissions team will provide studentnotifications by April 15th.Full timeline is as follows: January 3rd – application opensMarch 6st – application closesMarch 14th-31st – applications reviewedApril 1st-12th – interviews conductedApril 15th – selected students notifiedAt minimum, the student will need to take at least one Pre-Nursing course at APU (Culturally SafeHealthcare: Inquiry and Practicum), requiring admission into the Pre-Nursing program. Additional pointsare awarded if you have taken most of your courses at APU. Students must go through the normalprocessof applying, as they will need to be admitted to the Bachelor of Health Sciences program in orderto be admitted to the ADN program.Currently, only Pre-Nursing credits will transfer in. We do not accept Nursing credits or clinical credits.On what is my application assessed?Your application is assessed based on a holistic assessment of your GPA, transcripts, your résumé, and (ifapplicable) the interview stage.
