Please read the entire packet for moredetails on these requirements and deadlines. Applicants must complete all the tasks in eachphase in order to continue in the selection process. Failure to complete each task willresult in removal from the application pool.PHASE I: Complete FIRST Read the entire packet, making sure (if you were selected) you are able to meet ALL ofthe requirements in the “Conditionally Accepted ADN Students” (p.6-7) section. Complete DCCC Admission/Readmission process, including being up-to-date onResidency Determination Service (RDS), enrollment information sessions (EIS), andcollege orientation. Demonstrate English and mathematics “college readiness” levels, via college-levelEnglish/math courses or by completion of or waiver credit for specified “transition” or corequisite courses. Submit official transcripts to DCCC’s Admissions Office and/or evidence of achieving aHigh School Diploma. We cannotaccept Anatomy and Physiology credit where 1 course was taken at a University and the othercourse was taken at another college. Acceptable course substitutes, such as AP or transfer credit, will be considered and must beapproved by the records office.* Since they are required for the program, CPR/First Aid certification OR Nurse Aide certificationwill not provide points for this category.Nursing Admission Process DetailsPHASE I: Complete DCCC Admission/Readmission process, including being up-to-date onResidency Determination Service (RDS), enrollment information sessions (EIS),and college orientation. New Students: Applicants who have never attended DCCC before will need tocomplete the admissions process, including the North Carolina ResidencyDetermination Services (RDS). To get started, -apply/ Returning Students: Applicants who have not taken courses at DCCC in over ayear must update their information by re-applying to the college, including theNorth Carolina Residency Determination Services (RDS). To get started, -apply/ Current Students: Applicants who are currently enrolled should check with theiracademic advisor or the admissions office to be sure their North CarolinaResidency Determination Services (RDS) is up-to-date. TEAS is a computerized test of reading comprehension, sentence skills, science,and math problem solving. A score of 62 or higher must be obtained by all applicants in order to moveforward in the ADN competition. If a TEAS score of 62 is not obtained, applicantsshould meet with their advisor for next steps. TEAS section: Points will be awarded based on the previously submitted detailedTEAS report. Academic History Section: Points will be awarded based on previously submittedofficial transcripts. Please note that transfer credit must be evaluated by the Records Office.The acceptance of a specific transfer credit from another institution(community college or university) doesn’t mean the same credit willtransfer similarly into DCCC. Acceptable course substitutes, such as AP or transfer credit, will beconsidered and must be approved by the records office. Examples of active medical certificates include ONLY the following: EMT or Paramedic (North Carolina, National Registry, or evidenceof related military training) Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of MedicalAssistants Certification or evidence of related military training) Medical Laboratory Technician (American Society for ClinicalPathology Board of Certification or American Medical Technologistor evidence of related military training) Surgical Technician (Accreditation Review Council on Educationin Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or evidence ofrelated military training) Registered Health Information Technician (Commission onAccreditation for Health Informatics and Information ManagementEducation or evidence of related military training) Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered RespiratoryTherapist (National Board for Respiratory Care or evidence ofrelated military training) Radiographer or Radiation Therapist (American Registry ofRadiologic Technologists or evidence of related military training) Applicants must be registered with DCCC’s Veterans’ Services in order toearn points for the relevant Life Experience category. Since they are required for the program, CPR/First Aid certification ORNurse Aide certification will not provide points for the relevant LifeExperience category. Total points will be calculated for each applicant using the stated rubric and applicantswill be ranked based on the total points accumulated. Specifically, applicants will besorted by highest total points and ranked accordingly. Applicants with the highestoverall points after ranking will be offered conditional acceptance into the ADNprogram. Applicants who have met the eligibility requirements by 5pm on January 29th,2021 will be notified by email by February 26, 2021 of the results of the selectionprocess. Notification will be sent electronically to the applicant’s DCCC emailaddress. NOTE: Failure to check your DCCC email address may result inyou missing important communication, preventing you from beingconsidered in the ranking process. Ties will be decided, based on the following:1. The applicant with the higher total points earned in the “AcademicHistory” ranking section.2. The applicant with the higher total points earned in the “Life Experience”ranking section.3. The date that the applicant completed the nursing admissions review withthe College Admissions Specialist. Applicants must accept or decline a program position by submitting an Intent toEnroll Form within 10 business days of receiving the acceptance email. Failure torespond within the stated timeframe will result in the position being offered to anDCCC Fall 2021 Associate Degree Nursing Program Admission Packet6

alternate. Once an applicant declines a program seat, the decision may notbe reversed.Additional ADN applicants will be placed on an alternate list in ranked order.Should space become available in the ADN program, alternates will be contactedin order. Applicants who remain on the ADN alternate list once the 2021 ADNnursing program begins will not be carried over to a waiting list for the followingyear and must reapply to the ADN program for the following year.Conditionally Accepted ADN StudentsApplicants who accept a seat in the ADN program will be considered “conditionally accepted”into the ADN program. Full acceptance into the ADN program is contingent upon the successfulcompletion of the clinical clearance process and completion of college-specific processes, suchas registration.Conditionally accepted students are required to attend all meetings, or other events scheduledprior to the start of classes. Additionally, conditionally accepted students must enroll in programclasses prior to the first day of the semester. Failure to attend these meetings or enroll inprogram courses without prior approval from the Director of Nursing will result in removal fromthe nursing program.In order for nursing students to complete the required clinical hours while in the program,conditionally accepted ADN students are required to complete the clinical clearance processprior to enrollment in ADN courses. The clinical clearance process includes a criminalbackground check, drug screen, physical examination, and completion of the onboardingprocess as required by our clinical partners. The admission status will be revoked forconditionally accepted students who fail to successfully complete these items, including failingthe drug screen or background check. Please note that additional screening may be requiredafter graduation by examination boards, state licensing boards, and employing agencies.Pending the outcome, a graduate may be disqualified from examination eligibility, statelicensure, and/or employment.Conditionally Accepted ADN Student Criteria:The following requirements are verified by the School of Health, Wellness and Public Safetyafter acceptance. NOTE: Failure to complete the items below without prior approval of theDirector of Nursing will result in removal from the nursing program.1. Set up a CastleBranch account associated with DCCC’s ADN program.2. Successful completion of a drug screen and background check without findings.3. Submission of documentation to CastleBranch that provides evidence of the following:a. Completed health history form.b. Completed physical examination signed by a licensed medical provider.c. iv.Tuberculosis screening.v.Hepatitis B.d. Satisfactory completion of a Nurse Aide I (NA I) training program OR evidence ofenrollment in an upcoming NA I training program.i.NOTE: All nursing students MUST be listed on the NA I registry by thefirst day of the nursing class, without exception. If a conditionallyaccepted student takes a NAI training program over the summer theymust have completed the course, successfully passed the state-exam,,and be listed on the registry BEFORE the first day of the fall semester.e. Current (active) North Carolina state NAI registry listing without findings.4. Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification for the Healthcare Provider that does not expireon or before 5/31/2022. Must include both one- and two-rescuers and both adult andchild techniques.
