Letter of GreetingAssociate Degree of Nursing Transfer-In ProgramDear Prospective Associate Degree of Nursing Student,The faculty and staff of the Division of Nursing appreciate your interest in our Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) program. Thispacket will help guide you through the application process and provide you with the information about our Admissions Criteria andSelection Process.The ADN program at Manhattan Area Technical College is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. It also holdsaccreditation with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, 3343 Peachtree Road, NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA30326, 404.975.5000, http://www.acenursing.org The accreditation process requires additional evidence of program quality, andaccreditation is awarded after a thorough review of all of the aspects of the program. The nursing courses within the AssociateDegree of Nursing program are delivered over 10 ½ months. The nursing courses, plus prerequisite courses, may take a total of 3to 4 semesters to complete, depending upon prior academic history.The program begins in July and January each academic year. Individuals complete academic and clinical requirements to earn anAssociate of Applied Science degree in Nursing. The applicant must have a Kansas recognized LPN License, and must also showtranscript evidence of completion of prerequisites. Manhattan Area Technical College PN students who score at least a 2.5 GPAin their classes in the first semester of the PN program are given priority to enter the ADN program on the next start datefollowing PN graduation, if all other requirements are met. The ADN graduate is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensing exam;successful completion of the exam enables the graduate to practice as a Registered Nurse.Note Deadline: Your MATC Admissions Application as well as the required Associate Degree of Nursing Admissions Packet andthe documents listed within must be received on or before February 3 for July entry and September 1 for January entry.Please review the content of this packet to get an overview of the admission process. Effective July 1, 2019 Kansas was the 30th state in the United States to be a member of the Nurse LicensureCompact (NLC). Refer to the website for a complete list of states that are current members of the NLC. If you havequestions contact KSBN at 785-296-4929. Make sure you hold an active Kansas recognized LPN Licensure status priorto submission of the online application. The ATI Anatomy & Physiology Assessment is a requirement for program entry. Practice exams can be purchasedthrough ATI’s website. The test can be scheduled online through RegisterBlast. Applicants for the ADN program must have completed prerequisite courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to beconsidered for admission. Transfer courses must have a grade of “C” or higher. It is highly encouraged to have alltranscripts on file with the college prior to meeting with an academic advisor. Applicants for the ADN program will be scored based upon their cumulative GPA of their Practical Nursing program. Studentsare required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to be considered for admission. Transfer courses must have agrade of “C” or higher. Electronic devices (laptops) are required for the program. Laptops are required. Apple and Android devices are NOTcompatible with Manhattan Tech software—the devices must be Windows based. A sheet about the devicerequirements is located on page nine (9).The following criterion applies, IF APPLICABLE, to applicants:Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Associate Degree of Nursing applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate English languageproficiency before being accepted into the Associate Degree of Nursing program. The test used to measure Englishproficiency as set by Manhattan Tech, according to the KSBN board requirements, is the Test of English as a ForeignLanguage (TOEFL):oWriting: 20oReading: 19oSpeaking: 20oListening: 20Each area must meet the minimum requirements in the categories listed above. Non-Academic CriteriaThe following criteria applies to ALL applicants:ImmunizationsThese requirements are in place for the health and safety of Manhattan Tech ADN students and their patients. By contract withyour academic institution, all students participating in patient care in this institution must meet the following health and safetyrequirements. All documentation must meet requirements at all times during a clinical course. The requirements outlined belowmust be current to apply to the ADN program and participate in clinical hours.1) MMR Documentationa. Two (2) doses or proof of immunity by titer2) Chickenpox (Varicella)a. Two (2) doses or proof of immunity by titerb. Will NOT ACCEPT HISTORY OF CHICKENPOX - Chickenpox is an immunization that is often incomplete. We canonly accept proof of vaccination or a titer. We cannot take anyone’s testimony that you had chickenpox, not evena physician. Make sure that you have either vaccines or a titer. Paperwork for a low titer will not be accepted.3) Tetanus (TDAP)a. One (1) dose taken less than 10 years ago - Please ask your healthcare provider to give you the TDAP vaccine.4) Hepatitis B (Hep B)a. Three (3) doses or proof of immunity by titer - Hepatitis B is required by vaccine or titer. If your titer is low, youshould get the vaccine. Paperwork for a low titer will not be accepted. As the Application Information andInstructions state, you should get the Hepatitis B early, as it takes 6 months to complete the series as required.Nursing Essential Skills and Functional AbilitiesThe Associate Degree of Nursing Program is a practice discipline with cognitive, sensory, affective and psychomotor performancerequirements. Based on these requirements, the following list highlights the Nursing Essential Skills and Functional Abilities thathave been developed. Each standard has an example of activities which a student will be required to perform, with or without anaccommodation, while enrolled in the ADN program at Manhattan Tech. The Nursing Essential Skills and Functional Abilities shouldbe used as a guide to assist applicants in determining whether or not accommodations or modifications are necessary in order tomeet program participation requirements.Applicants who identify potential difficulties with meeting the Nursing Essential Skills and Functional Abilities should communicatetheir concerns to the Director of Nursing. If the concern is related to a documented disability, applicants are responsible forcontacting Manhattan Tech. Determination of reasonable and appropriate accommodation will be made on an individual basis inconsultation with Student Services. Additionally, applicants should assess their aptitude and ability to perform professional dutiesby reviewing the Nursing Essential Skills and Functional Abilities and discussing them with their healthcare provider.Background Check – COMPLETED UPON ACCEPTANCE INTO THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE OF NURSING PROGRAMThe completion of a criminal background check is one of the admission requirements to the Associate Degree of Nursing program.Specific requirements in regards to the background check will be given at orientation. The background check is required toascertain:1) The ability of students to eventually become licensed in the profession AND2) The ability of students to attend mandatory clinical rotations at external facilities in accordance with the requirements ofthe program.Because a criminal history can have different effects at the educational, licensure, and employment levels, when a person isconsidering pursuing a nursing career, it is best to have as much information as possible prior to deciding to enroll in a nursingprogram. Manhattan Tech encourages individuals who have criminal histories and who are interested in pursuing a nursing careerto:1) Contact approved nursing education programs and ask about the programs’ enrollment criteria with respect to criminalconvictions;2) Review the criminal history information according to the Kansas Board of Nursing policy 65-1120; AND3) Contact healthcare facilities and inquire about hiring criteria with respect to criminal convictions.6Revised 6/16/2020

Acceptance ProcessAdmission to the MATC Associate Degree of Nursing program is determined through a competitive selection process. Submission ofan application does not guarantee a position in the program. Refer to page eight (8) for the Associate Degree of Nursing ScoringRubric. Priority status for admission will be given each July to the recent MATC PN graduating class if they meet the Admissionrequirements. If there are spots available after accepting the current MATC PN graduating class, then ADN Transfer-In applicationpackets will be considered.After the application deadline, completed files will be scored utilizing the Associate Degree of Nursing scoring rubric andapplicants that completed an online Associate Degree of Nursing application will be notified of their acceptance, alternate, ordenied status. Notification usually occurs the first week of October for spring and first week of March for summer. Applicantsoffered a seat in the program must complete an online letter of intent indicating their plan to accept or decline enrollment in thenursing program by the date designated in the notification. In addition, a non-refundable 100 deposit must be paid whenaccepting a seat in the program and will be applied toward program tuition and fees at the start of classes. A student choosing todefer or withdraw their intention will forfeit their deposit.Failure to respond will result in forfeiture of a seat in the Associate Degree of Nursing Program.Student Responsibilities Upon AcceptanceAfter acceptance to the program, students will be required to attend program orientation (generally held in November for Januaryentry, and in May for July entry). Students will be notified of the date and time of the orientation in the acceptance letter.Students are also required to provide documentation of the following items prior to the first day of class.Specific information about the requirements shown below will be provided at orientation and will need to be completed by thefirst day of classes. Please do not submit TB skin tests before you receive information at orientation. Comprehensive Physical Exam — Along with meeting all the Nursing Essential Skills and Functional Abilities, a‘Physical Exam’ form will be provided at orientation if accepted. Students are required to obtain a physical exam andbe in good physical standing have a current physician’s exam within 1 year prior to the program start date to verifythat there are no major health issues that may affect full participation in the Associate Degree of Nursing programa
