With changing times, the Irwindale Police Department hasacquired greater responsibility in keeping its community safe.Demands for police service are becoming more challenging.Although we strive to maintain our goal of providing ourcommunity with the best services, the purpose of this letter isto bring you up to date with information regarding our policyon alarms.Chapter 9.63 of the Irwindale Municipal Code defines andclarifies the action to be taken in regards to Burglar AlarmSystems. This chapter clearly explains that alarm owners areresponsible for their alarm system. It also defines and explainsthat after three false alarms within a twelve-month period, thesystem will be considered a nuisance and the alarm owneris subject to a Misdemeanor citation in violation of section9.62.020 IMC. However, the section also states that the ownermay avoid such process by paying a civil penalty. Thesepenalties include twenty-five dollars ( 25) for the first offense,seventy-five dollars ( 75) for the second, and one hundredfifty dollars ( 150) for the third and subsequent offenses.Therefore, effective December 1, 2007 at 12:01 A.M., it is theintention of the Irwindale Police Department to initiate theenforcement and monitoring of the existing city municipalcode. The municipal code is available on the City of Irwindalewebsite: www.ci.irwindale.ca.us.Our goal is to work together with the community in regards tothe enforcement of our alarm municipal code. We understandthat it may take some time for you to ensure that your alarmsystem and alarm company are working effectively. Therefore,we will provide a thirty (30) day grace period.
