Open invitation for new membership will continue.Action items:Item 2Person responsible:Deadline:Program Progress/Enrollment ReportsDiscussion:Mike noted there was one less class running than last fall and we still saw a 5% increasein total students enrolled. The need to add a FT instructor remains. The discussion that followed included –Need to get the word out, internally as well as externally, that all of the required courses cycle atnight, so it is possible to work full time during the day and still take night classes and get a Hortdegree. The day classes are also scheduled so that students could have a few days off a weekallowing for employment. We are one of the few programs that does not require a student be fully admitted to the program. They are able to take a course as desired. There was a consensus by all industry present that there is plenty of work and ability for growth, but it is inhibited by a lack of available skilled/experienced workforce.Action items:Item 3Person responsible:Deadline:Capital EquipmentDiscussion:a. The greenhouse construction began last semester. It includes a larger headhouse which willhouse a 20 person classroom area and a building and study area for students. The former studyarea will now house the Instructor offices. There will be one central greenhouse (a gutterconnect nexus glass) which will have a rolling bench system, water collection/harvestingsystems, and more efficient energy systems.b. New Capital Equip purchased included ladders, injector sprayer system for the greenhouse, LEDlighting units, cash registers for plant sale use, and an electronic teaching cart.c. Requests have been submitted for a new mower, joystick controlled JCB skid steer, and batterypowered maintenance equipment.Tablet(s) and tracking software, and a brush cutter for skid steer were discussed as additionalitems that should be requested.

Modifications were started for 113 but are on hold while the curriculum modifications (Pathways)are determined. Discussion ensued regarding combining these two courses into one three credit courseand adding a one credit course on pesticide certification. The consensus was to keep them separate andcontinue overview coverage in current courses as appropriate.Laurie mentioned new developments in BioPesticides that are becoming the norm. She will work it intothe greenhouse curriculum but wondered if it should also be incorporated into the pests classes or abroader outreach. There is a grant opportunity to offer a course or workshop for industry people.Action items:Person responsible:Item 6Discussion:Quality Review Process (QRP)Nothing new to report.Action items:Person responsible:Item 7Discussion:Deadline:Deadline:Student Outcome Assessment (SOA)We regularly monitor our SOA. We’ve been talking with the JOBshop about improving the Hort Career Fair because we get greatemployer turnout but would like to increase traffic. Ideas include having more Communityparticipation such as by adding an open house. Becky asked the group to share any ideas theymay have.e. John handed out posters for the upcoming Open Houses and explained we have moved fromhaving one main Open House to one at every campus. This allows us to showcase the programsin their own environment vs just standing behind a table at the main campus. For the recentMequon Open House Hort had the Design Lab open with designs on display, a LandscapeConstruction exhibit in the Shop, and a tree climbing demonstration.
