Page 2What We DoTai Chi ClassPTSCC offers a widevariety of programs andservices designed to helpolder adults enjoy life tothe fullest.Our Recreation,Lifelong Learning, Healthand Wellness, NoonDining, Home DeliveredMeals, Adult Day Services,and Social Servicesprograms are available topersons 50 and better andtheir families who live inPalatine Township and thesurrounding communitiesin the north and northwestsuburbs of Chicago.While most of ourclients live in PalatineTownship, last fiscal yearwe served individuals andtheir families from over80 different communities.Services are available inEnglish, Spanish, andRussian at four satellitelocations. Our SocialServices staff also makeshome visits as needed.Making a Difference!Café partySpending time withyour friends at the SeniorCenter is good for you!85% of those respondingto our survey said thatthey agreed or stronglyagreed with the statements“I feel happier or moresatisfied with my life”, “ Ihave a more positiveoutlook on life”, and 96%said “I have more socialoutlets and friends since Ihave been coming to theSenior Center.” And notonly can you have a goodtime, you can find outinformation to make yourlife easier and/or better.88% of those respondingto our survey said that theyagreed or strongly agreedwith the statement “I knowmore about services andresources since I’ve beencoming to the SeniorCenter.”Social Services Available in English,Spanish and RussianAdult Day ServicesDrum CirclePTSCC is here to helpolder adults maintain theirindependence at homeand to take control oftheir health. The SocialServices staff helps clientsaccess benefits in English,Spanish and Russian.These benefits includeState, Federal and localprograms such as PublicAid, SNAP, Medicaid,LIHEAP, BenefitsAccess, PrescriptionPlans, Citizenship,Naturalization, andTranslation. Home visitsare available. Services arealso offered at theCommunity ResourceCenter and othercommunity locations.Our Social Servicesstaff saved the olderadults meeting with themduring Medicare Part D(Prescription Drug) OpenEnrollment over 160,000!One couple was able tosave over 8,000 per yearbecause of our staff’sassistance.The Social ServicesDepartment also includesthe Caring Hearts AdultDay Services Program,which engages older adultswith mild to moderatememory loss in structuredactivities, providesopportunities forsocialization, exercise andlunch, and gives thosecaring for them a break.The program is offeredMondays throughThursdays.

Services will not total 2,994Home Delivered MealsNutritious food for those who needhelp staying in their homesEvery weekday, a teamof volunteer drivers deliverhot, nutritionally balancednoon meals to older adultswho cannot prepare mealsbecause of illness ordisability. This past year,the program was expandedto offer evening and weekend meals to thoseinterested.Some older adults whoreceive meals have justbeen released from thehospital and will only beon the program for a shorttime. Others have been onthe program for manyyears. The thing they allhave in common is thedesire to live independentlyin their own homes for aslong as possible.When asked for feed-back about the service,one home deliveredmeals recipient wrote:“Thank you, thank youfor the fantastic job youall do in providing goodmeals for us, for yourcaring ways, and forbeing so willing toaccommodate our wishes. Beinginvolved and staying active are passions of hers. Teaching andcoordinating the Mah Jongg group at the center gives her muchjoy and our participants are so thankful for her enthusiasm andpatience. Her teaching of Mah Jongg goes far beyond thecenter, as she has taught people several places for many years,and the number of her students reaches close to 400. Our MahJongg fundraiser, which has been held annually since 2012, washer brainchild, and has raised over 18,000 to support theprograms and services of PTSCC.
