INVENTORY OF CURRENT GRANTS AND INVESTMENTSIN OREGON’S HEALTHCARE WORKFORCEMAY 2010Compiled by the Oregon Healthcare Workforce Institutefor the Oregon Health Care Workforce Committee

Dear Healthcare Workforce Stakeholders:The State of Oregon’s Health Care Workforce Committee(Committee), created in 2009, is chartered to coordinate stateefforts to educate, recruit, and retain a quality workforce thatwill meet the demand for healthcare created by expansion inhealthcare coverage, system transformation and an increasinglyaging and diverse population. At the request of the Committeeand the Oregon Health Policy Board, the Oregon HealthcareWorkforce Institute (OHWI), in partnership with the Office forOregon Health Policy and Research, compiled a statewideinventory of public and private funding in the healthcareworkforce. This inventory, combined with other data sources, will enable the Committee to conduct further in-depth analysesof workforce needs and resources and developrecommendations for the Oregon Health Policy Board to buildOregon’s healthcare workforce. The inventory request was sent to stakeholders in April 2010 toidentify funds awarded in 2010 and funds that have beenawarded for projects currently in progress. Under“Occupation,” responders entered “General” for fundingtargeted for three or more healthcare occupations or thehealthcare workforce in general. Under “Statewide orCounty,” responders entered “Statewide” for funding targetedfor an occupation in general or the State of Oregon in general. The inventory does not list advisory councils or boards, orroutine clinical rotations, internships or externships.www.oregonhwi.orgPage 1The request was sent to a total of 118 stakeholders in thefollowing categories: Associations (Coded “A” in inventory; 4 receivedrequest)Educational institutions (Coded “E” in inventory; 43received request)Foundations (Coded “F” in inventory; 11 receivedrequest)Provider organizations (Coded “P” in inventory; 38received request)State Government (Coded “SG” in inventory; 2 receivedrequests.
