IntroductionIn May 2016, we released the fourth edition of AConsumers Guide to Grants Management Systems, acollaborative effort of Idealware, PEAK Grantmaking(formerly Grants Managers Network), and theTechnology Affinity Group. (Download it for free ntsmanagement-systems-2016.)Each edition of the report allows us to publish a widerrange of information about the grants managementsystems available to foundations, which is a pushtoward greater transparency in the marketplace. Webelieve this report has an effect on the market, as well.By making it easier for foundations to compare thedifferent available systems not just against their ownneeds, but against one another, as well, we believe theConsumers Guide encourages vendors to make theirsoftware more competitive.People choose systems based on more than just thefeatures they offer—they also consider the strength ofthe vendors that produce them and the developmenttrajectory for the software. Just as a grantmaker’sPAGE3needs evolve and change, vendors also continue todevelop their products. Last fall we began publishingthis Vendor Product Update Supplement to theConsumers Guide. We invited vendors included in thereport to submit information about any updates oradditions they have made to their systems since oursoftware demos for the report. We’ll work with themto update this supplement twice more, in six-monthintervals, as a way to keep you up-to-date on productchanges between editions of the Consumers Guide. Ifyou signed up to download the report, we’ll email youeach time the supplement is updated.By publishing both the guide and the supplements,we strive to provide transparency that fosters healthycompetition in the market and helps vendors to bemore responsive to their clients’ needs. Participationin this update is not mandatory, and not all vendorschose to participate in this inaugural edition. Thatdoes not mean they won’t choose otherwise insubsequent editions, nor does it mean their systems otbeing updated.
