PIR Motion Sensor (EKMB, EKMC, AMN2, 3)MOUNTING DIRECTION1) Detection areaAs shown on the diagram, theTargetdetection zone is polarized. If a target enters thedetection zones and atthe same time, the signalsare respectively cancelledand detection could becomeimpossible at maximumdetection range.DetectionzoneY direction2) DirectionYAs detailed on theXdiagram, please installZthe sensor so that theexpected trespassingdirection corresponds to theaxis X or axis Y.X directionIn some cases, going back andforth towards the sensor (parallelmovement to the axis Z), may not be detected.Z directionNOTES1. Checkpoints relating to principal ofoperationPaPIRs is a pyroelectric infrared sensorthat detect variations in infrared rays. However, it may not detect in thefollowing case: lack of movement, Notemperature change in the heatsource. Beside, it could also detect thepresence of heat sources other than ahuman body.Efficiency and reliability of the systemmay vary depending actual operatingconditions:1) Detecting heat sources other than thehuman body, such as(1) Small animals entering the detectionarea.(2) When a heat source for examplesunlight, incandescent light, carheadlights etc, or strong light beam hitthe sensor regardless inside or outsidethe detection area.(3) Sudden temperature change insideor around the detection area causedby hot or cold wind from HVAC, orvapor from the humidifier, etc.2) Difficulty in sensing the heat source(1) Glass, acrylic or similar materialsstanding between the target and thesensor may not allow a correcttransmission of infrared rays.(2) Non-movement or quick movementsof the heat source inside the detectionarea. (Please refer to the section onthe detection performance ratings fordetails about movement speed.)3) Expansion of the detection areaIn case of considerable difference inthe ambient temperature and thehuman body temperature, detectionarea may be wider apart from theconfigured detection area.4) Malfunction/Detection errorUnnecessary detection signal might beoutputted, on rare occasions, comefrom sudden outbreak output due tothe nature of pyroelectric element. When the application does not acceptsuch conditions strictly, pleaseimplement the countermeasure byintroducing pulse count circuit etc.2. Optimal operating environmentconditions1) Temperature: Refer to the absolutemaximum rating.2) Humidity degree: 15 to 85%Rh (Avoidcondensation or freezing of thisproduct)3) Pressure: 86 to 106KPa4) Overheating, oscillations, shocks cancause the sensor to malfunction.5) This sensor is not waterproof ordustproof. Avoid use in environmentssubject to excessive moisture, condensation, frost, containing salt airor dust.6) Avoid use in environments withcorrosive gases.3. Handling cautions1) Do not solder with a soldering ironabove 350 C 662 F and not for morethan 3 seconds. This sensor should behand soldered.2) To maintain stability of the product, always mount on a printed circuitboard.3) Do not use liquids to wash the sensor. If washing fluid gets through the lens, itcan reduce performance.4) Do not use a sensor after it fell on theground.5) The sensor may be damaged by 200volts of static electricity. Avoid directhand contact with the pins and be verycareful when operating the product.6) When wiring the product, always useshielded cables and minimize thewiring length to prevent noisedisturbances.7) The inner circuit board could bedestroyed by a voltage surge.Use of surge absorption elements ishighly recommended.Surge resistance: below the powersupply voltage value indicated in themaximum rated values section.8) Please use a stabilized power supply.Power supply noise can causeoperating errors.Noise resistance: 20V or less (Squarewaves with a width of 50ns or 1 s)To reduce the effect of power supplynoise, install a capacitor on thesensor’s power supply pin.9) Operating errors can be caused bynoise from static electricity, lightning, cell phone, amateur radio, broadcasting offices etc.10) Detection performance can bereduced by dirt on the lens.11) The lens is made of soft materials(Polyethylene). Please avoid addingweight or impacts that might change itsshape, causing operating errors orreduce performance.12) Operating “temperatures” and“humidity level” are suggested toprolong usage. However, they do notguarantee durability or environmentalresistance.Generally, high temperatures or highhumidity levels will accelerate thedeterioration of electrical components. Please consider both the plannedusage and environment to determinethe expected reliability and length oflife of the product.13) Do not attempt to clean this productwith any detergent or solvent, such asbenzene or alcohol, as these cancause shape or color alterations.14) Avoid storage in high, lowtemperature or liquid environments. As well, avoid storage in environmentscontaining corrosive gas, dust, salty airetc. It could cause performancedeterioration and the sensor’s mainpart or the metallic connectors couldbe damaged. For more information, see Notes for Using Motion Sensors.8ds 61802 en pir motion sensor: 190813D
