6AcademicsAcademicsEnglish as a Second LanguageAdult Secondary and Basic EducationSan Juan Adult Ed offers a variety of free ESL classes designed to help students achieve their life,education, and career goals in the United States.English as a Second LanguageLiteracy, beginning, intermediate, and advancedESL classes are offered on a continuousopen-enrollment basis. With a focus on Englishfor work, home, school, and the community,these classes help develop and improve skills inlistening, speaking, reading, and writing.Basic Computers SkillsIn the Basic Computer Skills class, studentswill learn essential computer skills includingaccessing and using Gmail and other Googleapps (Docs, Slides, etc.), and safely using webbrowsers and search engines. Additionally,students can practice keyboarding, writing simpleemails, and preparing a resume.Communication SkillsThe Communications Skills classes (lowand high levels) help students develop theirconversational skills and increase their fluencyin spoken English. Ourhigh school completion program is accreditedby the Western Association of High Schoolsand Colleges (WASC), the same organizationthat accredits all high schools in the District. AtSJAE, students work at their own pace underthe direction of credentialed teachers, either inan independent study program or in a multisubject classroom. In addition, this segment also includes frontoffice skills such as scheduling appointments andsome medical office computer training. *Studentssuccessfully completing this segment are eligible forcommunity college credits through American RiverCollege. Clinical: Students learn CMA clinical skills, includinghow to interview patients, position patients forall medical exams, take adult/infant vitals, giveinjections, perform a venipuncture, read an EKG/ECG, and more. Students practice theirclinical skills on each other.
