It has beenan honor and privilege to be part of this amazing arts center for somany years and I am very excited about the upcoming year, bothonstage and around the community. The art center staff is alwayshard at work bringing new shows to our stage, exhibitions to ourgalleries and new classes to our classrooms. This season will featuremain stage shows (both professional and community-produced),expanded youth education programs, professional exhibitions andmany hands-on opportunities to get involved with the arts.The main stage will feature three community theater productions.Sylvia, a modern romantic comedy about marriage and a dog, kicks off their season The holiday show, TheLion in Winter, will transport you back to the 12th Century with an epic quarrel between King Henry II andEleanor of Aquitaine. The spring musical will be Stephen Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Wayto the Forum. This season brings four professional shows featuring opera, musical entertainment, danceand comedy. Our local dance community will come together to bring The Nutcracker back to the. It is alsoone of four shows in the Arts in Education series that provide young people an opportunity to have a livetheatrical experience.Marcella Kuykendall and the Visual Arts Committee of the Arts Commission have put together an outstandingvariety of exhibitions that will delight the senses and highlight the rich talents of local and regional artists.New art classes for all ages will provide educational opportunities for artisans to share their knowledge withseasoned and rising artists. Thank you to all our artists and staff for your efforts to make art accessible inCarrollton.From classes and private instruction to performances and exhibits, there is something to spark everyone’screativity this season. Art restores our spirit, transports us to far off places, touches our imagination andprovides a way to find one’s true self.
